As of today - when I move back to RI and apply for KITAP according to the process, will I be immediately eligible to apply the 5 year KITAP, or do I have to do the series of one year permits as in previous times? Sorry, I haven't kept up with this.

Wife and I are married since 2011 (under KUA) ... I haven't lived in Indonesia since 2016.

So it means apply for the one year KITAS first, once that is obtained can apply to change it to KITAP ?

First KITAS and you can get KITAP, immediately after that if you want. You cannot get KITAP straight away

Just did the change of status , Alhi Status to the 5 year Kitap . Did it myself , easy process and saved a heap of $$$ / Rp compared to an agent . 6,750,000rp compared to anything from 15,000,000 to 30,000,000rp I've heard of people paying through an agent . Imigration require a Letter of Recognition of your Marriage from the Consulate of your home country in the area you live if you haven't already got it . Some guys have needed it for Kitas renewal/extensions , I was never asked for it until the change of status to the 5 year Kitap. Got mine from the Australian Consulate in Surabaya , I live in Jawa Timur . Enquired on line by email , they sent me the requirements which I sent to them by registered mail , they notified me it was ready and sent me a payment receipt , paid it "800,000rp " at the local Post Office , sent them the a copy of the payment receipt by email and they sent the letter by return registered post . Took about a week . All the documents / photo copies of documents the Embassy required need to be signed/witnessed by a Notary . The KITAP took about 3 months with the Covid requirements that are now in place , the application has to go through more offices . I live in a pretty isolated area , all my paperwork had to go through inter-office mail , may be quicker if your close to or live near the Imigration/Kanwil/Director Generals offices that the application has to go through . Have heard guys in Bali/Denpasar and Jakarta areas getting their's a lot quicker , they took it to the different officers themselves . Good luck !

Nicho, what is the meaning of "Alhi Status"? Does this refer to the one year spousal KITAS?

Alhi Status is Indonesian for Change of Status which you will have to apply for when you change from the yearly limited stay KITAS to the 5 year permanent stay KITAP . Bit more paperwork involved in the change , Letter of Recognition of Marriage from your home country consulate/embassy in the region where you will be living in Indonesia "cost me 800,00rp from the Australian Embassy in Surabaya/ Jawa Timur" , and current letters of Domicile/ Surat Keterangan Domicili and Residence/Surat Keterangan Tempat Tinggal Sementara from the Kepala Desa/Village Chief in the area you will be living which should be free, copies of your Birth certificate , Marriage certificate or the Indonesian Buku Nikah , CV with work history and hobbies etc , Letter to state you won't be working unless your appling for a work Kitas , copies of your wifes KTP , KK and Akta Kehiliran/Birth Certificate , Letters of sponsorship and responsiblity etc etc etc if she is sponsoring you all stamped and signed by a Notarias/Indonesian Justice of the Peace . Other guys have needed the Letter of Recogniton for the whole process , Vitas ,Kitas and Kitap . I was only ever asked for it when I applied for the Alhi Status / Change of Status . Should be able to apply for change to Kitap it as soon as you get the KITAS as you've been married since 2011 although there was a 2 year period you had to be married and living here . All the neccessary information is on the Indonesian Imigration Dept's web site . I used an Agent for the Vitas and change to Kitas which has to be done within 14 days of your arrival in Indonesia then did the yearly Kitas extensions and Alhi Status/Change of Status myself saving almost 50 million rupiah in quoted agent fees . You will have to apply for the Vitas first to enter the country then do the changes ! Sounds a bit daunting which is why I used an agent initially but quite an easy process from then on . ** Check the requirements at the Regional Imigration Office where you will be living before you apply for the Alhi Status/Change of Status Kitas to Kitap . Each office/ region and every officer within the office have a different interpretation of the rules/requirements !!

Normally to get KITAP you should have a Kitas (limited stay permit) first and extend it for 1 times

If you are married to an Indonesian citizen you can apply for a KITAP, however you will not be able to apply directly for the visa until you have been married for 2 years.

If you have already been married for 2 years or more you can apply for a KITAP directly after getting your spouse KITAS, meaning you will not need to extend your visa twice :)

2 years from date of registration with Catalan Spil or whatever it is

Isn't that the same. The date of the marriage as registered with CS

Haven't we seen this before where someone was married for 5 years and didn't register the marriage in Indonesia because it was done out of county. When they came back to Indonesia and registered the marriage, it started from that day. The didn't get credit for the 5 years. Pretty sure I've heard that more than once.

I have never heard that mentioned in any forum. If married outside Indonesia it first needs to be registered with the Indonesian Embassy and then on return filed with CS. Ours was the date we were married, not from the time we registered it. They take the date from the marriage certificate you supply.

I guess I am wrong but I could have swore I have seen discussed this more than once. I stand corrected if that is not the case. I used to visit more than one forum so it could have been from there and be incorrect. Carry on.

I remember also someone not registering their marriage and losing a year of their kitas kitaP etc

Clear as mud. You can't lose something you can't get to begin with. Try this, if you are applying for a spouce sponsored visit visa, you must have your marriage registered through the KUA if Islamic marriage or Catatan Sipli if mixed religion or performed outside Indonesia before you are elegible to get said visa.

Ok. I did a search to make sure I wasn't getting early dementia. Here is the thread and the post that gave me the impression that it started from the date of registration. Maybe I still misunderstand or the rules have changed.
