After about 3 months I finally got my 5 years KITAP under spouse sponsorship with the help of an agent.
I read in this forum that DIY KITAP cost less than 10 juta. Mine cost about three times that.

However, I did not have to do the legwork. I only had to visit west Jakarta immigration twice for photo and finger prints (one for company to spouse KITAS sponsorship transfer, and another for spouse sponsored KITAS to spouse sponsored KITAP). I also had to visit Kemenkumham Kanwil office in Jakarta for an interview.

If any of you would like to know more about the process or would like to get one done via this agent that I know, please PM me. I highly recommend this agent for his work.

PS: I also obtained a 2 year MERP as part of the deal.

Congratulations wombat!

The decision on whether to do DIY or use an agent is completely personal. Some people enjoy the challenge of DIY, like to learn more about how the bureaucracy works, and get a great sense of accomplishment/confidence for the future by doing it themselves (I think in development-speak we would say they are "empowered"). Plus, they save oodles of money.

On the other hand, some people are very busy, don't mind spending the cash on an agent (or sometimes an employer pays for it), and like the simplicity of just being walked through the process with a minimal expenditure of time, and little to no aggravation/panic/uncertainty.

So, people should do whatever works best for them, and if anyone tries to make you feel guilty for how you do it, that is their problem, not yours. It's all good!

I also don't have KTP. I was told the same no need to have one.

Nice to know someone is in the same boat as me, the various hoops you have to jump through to get your KITAP, can be confusing and some don't really seem to be standard, and they don't know their own rules,

I remember that Marcus (old forum member, such a shame he is not here) told that there is a penalty if we won't get our own KTP. There was also discussion on the old forum "how useful ktp for kitap holders is".

KTP has nothing what so ever todo with Immigration. Yes, you do need to visit your Catatan Sipil and get the going.

The KTP might not be a problem for KanIm, but you are required to get one. Catatan sipil can still inconvenience you if they happen to find you without one (I have seen video of them doing raids at a train station). Also, what KanIm tells you is unnecessary (but actually is), could be the source of a nice bit of uang rokok a couple of years from now.

It's such a fresh breath of air once that Kitap is in your hand .., it would even be better if the Merp lasted just as long to go with it

Hi Happy man ,
Ive been on a Kitap for 4.5 years now (and away from the forums also) ..., Are you saying WE (as foreigners on a Kitap) are now also required to apply for a KTP ..., I'm confused ?

.., As I always thought the KTP only applied to Indonesian citizens ?

I told immigration I didn't have a KTP, she said get it next year?? That's when I renew my KITAP, the chances of me being at a railway station or block M are pretty remote, I've been here over 18 years and never been stopped for anything, oh well a couple of driving infringements, only asked for driving licence, which I don't have now as at my age I'm none too tolerant of some local drivers, so best for me to sit in the backseat and let my daughter drive, wonder where she picked up all those Anglo- Saxon words

KTP Orang Asing - referring to UU no 6, 2006 on Civil Adminstration

Art 21
1. Foreigners who convert ITAS to ITAP are required to report to the implementing agency (in this case Catatan Sipil) within 14 days of the issuing of ITAP.
2. Based on the report in 1., the implementing agency will register and issue KK and KTP.

Art 89
2. Administrative sanction for failing the above is at maximum Rp 2.000.000,-

So you are required to register and have KTP and KK OA, but the worst they can do is ding you Rp 2 million.

The other benefit of having KTP is that it makes a lot of paperwork easier, rather than bringing a passport everywhere.

Yes, we are required to have it. I haven't really researched it in full, since it was no problem to get it. Here are a list of the national laws and regulations regarding the matter, as found at http://disdukcapilmusirawas.org/inf...anan-penerbitan-kartu-tanda-penduduk-ktp-wna/ : I did not read them yet, and I should say first that the fines and such are at the discretion of the local gov.

  1. Undang – Undang Nomor 23 Tahun 2006tentang Administrasi Kependudukan sebagaimana telah diubah dengan Undang-Undang Nomor 24 tahun 2013 tentang Perubahan atas Undang – UndangNomor 23 Tahun 2006 tentangAdministrasi Kependudukan;
  2. Peraturan Presiden Nomor 25 Tahun 2008 tentang Persyaratan dan Tata Cara Pendaftaran Penduduk dan Pencatatan Sipil;
  3. Peraturan Menteri Dalam Negeri Nomor 19 Tahun 2010 tentang Formulir dan Buku yang Digunakan Dalam Pendaftaran Penduduk dan Pencatatan Sipil;

Here is a description of the law and it's application, including the penalty, 50k in Banywangi (the penalty amount is a local matter). http://dispendukcapil.banyuwangikab...-terlambat-mengurus-administrasi-kependudukan

In Depok, KITAP holders who miss the 30 day deadline for reporting their move from outside the country are subject to a 300k fine. KITAS holders who miss the 14 day deadline for reporting their move to depok from outside the country are subject to a 2jt fine. KITAP holders who converted from a KITAS and do not report it within 14 days, 2jt fine. Actually, the article I read about this does not clearly say "late to amake a KTP", or words to that effect. The penalty section just follows the KTP section... I also have been unable to find the actual law, (even on the Depok gov site... but then I don't live in Depok, anyway). Here is the article I got this info from: http://www.tamankodok04.id/2016/03/sosialisasi-peraturan-daerah-kota-depok.html

Finding the local laws is a real pain in the ass, and even when you do find them, they like to play silly snots with the arrangement of the document, refrencing back and forth inside the document till you need a bloody flow chart to understand it. That's why I'm not sure about the 2jt fine I saw mentioned in the news for Surabaya, I didn't want to take the time to clarify if it is for failure to get a SKTT or failure to get a KTP, when the law is not clearly laid out in a single document.

To be sure and clear, the KTP WNA is required. As to what the fine is for failure to get one is... I haven't got a clue for my own city, and I don't see why anyone would care unless they were late to register for it.

Thx kindly dafluff for the info ...,

I have the old plastic police registration card (which is now apparently not necessary) , so I guess this makes up for it.

I guess I will have to get my KTP .., even though my currant Kitap is up for renewal is about 6 months ..., I don't want Immigrasi asking me "wheres your KTP" during the renew process?

Your right dafluff about being a PITA having to take your passport everywhere , that drives me nuts when I go to the Bank and they ask for it ;)
