Expat Indo is a free information website and community for expatriates in Indonesia.

Our Story:

We believe that the sharing of information and an online community for Expats in Indonesia is a much needed resource. The knowledge of someone who has “been there, done that” is invaluable. As such Expat Indo was born in July 2016. With our ever growing community, we are pooling the knowledge and experiences of people from all over the world. We are glad to share this with everyone who has connection to this wonderful country that at some time or other we have called home.

In November 2016, after several months of hard work in our spare time, we were able to launch the companion website: www.expatindo.org.

All of us have our own lives besides Expat Indo which, despite having great ambitions, is more akin to a hobby project rather than a full-time endeavor.

Our Mission:

To provide a wealth of information to help expatriates who are settling in Indonesia.

This information must be:

  • Accurate
  • Up-to-date
  • Helpful
  • Free

Additionally, with Expat Indo Forum we aim to offer a community that welcomes both foreigners and locals. A place where everyone can share information, ideas, and opinions. The ultimate goals are to make life in Indonesia a pleasant experience for expatriates and to enhance understanding between foreigners and our hosts in Indonesia.

Our Vision:

To become the most responsive, informative, and welcoming on-line community for expatriates (past, present, or future) and Indonesians who share their interests.

Our Team:

Atlantis: Atlantis has spent most of his life as an expat or as a kid of expat outside his native country. Including in Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia.
He has settled in Indonesia almost two decades ago, and married a Minahasan lady. He currently lives in Manado, North Sulawesi with their three kids.

Dafluff: Dafluff is a second generation expat in Indonesia. His parents are of WNA-WNI mixed marriage have moved the entire family to Bali in the early 80’s. He was educated in the Indonesian national school system, then obtained engineering degrees in the US and lived in the US and Canada. A relatively recent return to Indonesia, he has benefited greatly from the online expat community. Now he is working hard to return the favor.

El_Goretto: El_Goretto is a French expat who has been living in Indonesia since 2011 and made the greater Jakarta his home base. As gadget, technology and video games freak, El_Goretto particularly enjoys the technical aspects of managing Expat Indo and its forums. He also loves Padang cuisine, especially when eating with his fingers.

john madden: john madden is an Australian married to a Javanese from Banyuwangi. The couple have a daughter who has experienced both countries and been exposed to education systems in both. When john first relocated to Indonesia he received invaluable assistance from the expat community in dealing with Immigration and Police matters. He is keenly aware of the support the forum can offer expats and wants to contribute as much as possible. He can be a grumpy old fart but tries not to let it show… too much.

Ponyexpress: A dingo who likes to tickle echidna as her favourite pastime.

Puspawarna: Puspawarna is an American who has lived in the Federated States of Micronesia, Mozambique, Egypt – and of course, in Indonesia, where she lived for nearly 18 years before retiring to Hawaii in 2018. She still maintains close ties to Indonesia and visits often, and remains active in the Expat Indo community. She loves playing Javanese gamelan, cooking, and gardening, and spends her time trying to improve her skills at all of them.
