When is KTA-OA supposed to expire?

On my KTP the expiry date is the same as the expiry date of my MERP = 2 years validity. Is that how it's supposed to be? I was expecting the KTP to expire after 5 years when my KITAP expires.

I'm approaching my KTP/MERP's expiry date, so I'm not sure if I have to extend the KTP or not. It was a real pain to make it in the first place, I'd rather just ignore it if I can.

A KTP normally expires at the same time your KITAP expires. Not sure on how they are handling the lifetime now but mine still only had a 5 year expiration to come at the same time as my check in.

It's not how it's supposed to be. Your KTP Orang Asing should expire at the same date as your KITAP. Nothing to do with MERP.
This being said I had to show to the CaPil staff where to find the ITAP stamp on my passport. If, like me, you live in a place where foreigners are not really numerous it is possible that the Capil staff took the date of expiration of your MERP while thinking it was the ITAP's expiration date.

You will always have a "date of expiration" or a "date to report" on any ITAP's document. The KTP-OA will follow this date.

It’s normal for your KTP to have the same expiry date as your MERP, since they’re both tied together. But yeah, I can see how you'd expect it to be 5 years if it’s related to your KITAP. If you're getting close to the expiry, you might need to check with immigration about extending it, just to avoid any issues later.

Wrong, it is not tied to the Merp. It is tied directly with your KITAP exparation only. The Merp has no bearing on it. Please make sure if yourself before posting false information.

Article 64
(7) e-KTP for:
a. Indonesian citizen, with lifetime validity period ; and
b. Foreigners, with the validity period of the Permanent Residence Permit/ITAP .

Thanks for all the responses. I wonder if the Kanim will accept an "expired" KTP in a couple years when I do my next MERP extension...

It's going to be problematic to fix it, I don't think Capil are going to allow me to get a new one unless my wife moves her KTP to here, they were very reluctant to issue my KTP based on her surat domisili the first time.

Is your home address the same as your area you have a KTP? Your KTP and KITAP should be from the same location and I would be surprised if your wife's KTP was accepted by Immigration if it isn't from the same area.

My ITAP's date to report is April 2026
My MERP date of expiration is Desember 2025
Why are they expiring at different dates? Why not make it simple and have everything due at the same date? I do hope this conflict of expiration dates is corrected Soon! 🤷🏼‍♂️🤪

All of my documents have our home address. My wife's KTP is in the neighboring kabupaten, but still the same Kanim area. The Kanim is semi-okay with her using surat domisili because it's all in their wilayah, but the Capil doesn't like the situation at all and wants her to pindah her KTP to them.

My wife refuses to move her KTP until we have a 100% permanent address because it's such a hassle to move her KTP more than once.

I guess Immigration will not ask for your KTP . And as far as I know , if you don't intend to go abroad you don't need to get a new Re-Entry Permit (MERP) .

Article 160
(1) The application for a new Re-Entry Permit is submitted by ... attaching:
a. Valid Passport; and
b. ITAP.
(3) Issuance & delivery of the virtual Re-Entry Permit for ITAP is carried out within a maximum period of 3 working days after fee payment is received.

I also guess that your city's Kantor Catatan Sipil will not ask for your wife's KTP . In my city a process of correction/change of a document is different from a process of issuing a new document .

Now we will or may have (not sure if it will be mandatory) the same expiring date . But for my personal situation (almost never go abroad) it is cheaper to have a Re-Entry Permit (MERP) of just 3 months validity , like the last one I requested & got long time ago for my 45 days trip to my country .

Residence Permit/ITAP and Re-Entry Permit/MERP are 2 different things , so I don't see a conflict to be corrected , although Immigration has already changed to (or optionally offered) the way you want .

Residence Permit and Re-Entry Permit have a totally different function , so ...

It only makes sense, that all the permits are on the same schedule. If a person has a stay permit for X amount of years, their Merp should be the same. What if a person with a Kitas, or Kitap, wanted to leave for some time. And when they return, it is still valid and up to date, then Their Merp should have the same date! It only makes sense!
Yes one is for residency, and the other is for coming and going. Then while a person is a legal resident, they should be able to come and go without having to pay more at the Airport! 🤷🏼‍♂️👍🙀🤪
