How fast can an expat who is married to an Indonesian actually get their KITAP with no previous limited stay permits? I'm talking about never having a KITAS, and never having a VITAS either. I believe in can be done in 10 weeks, what is your experience ?

How long have you been married? Is your marriage registered in RI? Does your spouse live in Indonesia? If so, in which province?

If you have a procedure outlined for this I would be thankful if you could post it here.

As far as I know, there is no mechanism by which you can get at KITAP without getting a KITAS.

I was assuming (s)he meant the complete throughput from zero to hero, including the necessary ITAS steps? So with never having an ITAS before. But if (s)he means skipping these phases.....well, good luck.

I did mean zero to hero and started the process 6 weeks ago. To date I completed the VITAS, ITAS, KITAS in 4 weeks and filed my KITAP application the same day I received my KITAS which was November 4, 2016. Immigration conducted an interview at my wife's house in Jakarta 1 week after the application. I was told to return November 16, 2016 to get a letter for the second immigration office which will review my file and interview report from the first immigration office.

Can you post the full process you took.

I need to the same next month.

OK, I miss understood your first post then, as I understood it to mean never having to apply for KITAS first. This is just a basic VITAS->KITAS->KITAP conversion that is allowed under the law provided your marriage to a WNI is over 2 years old. The only possible snag is having to convince your local KanIm to process a KITAP right away, as they may advice you to wait until 3 months prior to the expiration of the KITAS.

Immigration did ask me why I wanted to get my KITAP when I just got my KITAS. They said you just paid Rp 2,000,000 why would I want to waste that money knowing I'd have to pay another Rp 5,000,000. I explained to them why do I want to go through the KITAS process again and again and only get 1 year permit to stay, when I can get (according to indonesian law) my 5 year KITAP. Ah I see they replied!

Yes this is just a basic VITAS, ITAS, KITAS, ITAP, KITAP conversion under the law but I'm attempting to complete it in just 10 weeks with no waiting after receiving my KITAS. Remember I applied for the KITAP the same day I got my KITAS.

I'm kinda not following your logic here: " I explained to them why do I want to go through the KITAS process again and again and only get 1 year permit to stay, when I can get (according to indonesian law) my 5 year KITAP."

I don't see how you have to do the KITAS process again and again even if you had waited until at the end of the KITAS to get the conversion.

So basically it is the same amount of paperwork, same number of immigration visits, same fees. But in your case for Rp 7 million you get 5 years (KITAP), instead of 6 years (1 year KITAS + 5 year KITAP) in Indonesia.

I suppose there are some minor advantages for going direct to KITAP, for example you can get 5 year driver's license immediately.

And why is it when you go into Immigration 90 days before applying for something they tell you to wait 30 more days? Most had hit that wall where they can't get a KITAP until 60 days prior.

There are several reasons for going direct to KITAP such as:

1. Documents needed are in hand ready to go

2. Fees may go up anytime

3. Laws may change making procedures more difficult

4. Getting your KTP-WNA makes traveling and purchases less expensive and you don't have to carry your passport and KITAP anymore.

5. Registering your name on the KK

6. 5 Year Drivers License

Not having to come back to immigration in 9 months only to hear about new rules, new fees, and the hassle of making all those trips to numerous offices again. Your right about the same amount of paperwork, same number of immigration visits, and same fees. But while I have everything needed to get the KITAP, and now have established some type of working relationship (know many officers by first name) with immigration, and know where to go and who to see, it clearly makes sense to go for the 5 year KITAP and be done with running around for 5 years.

The biggest reason for doing this was to see how fast an expat could obtain a KITAP starting from scratch with no limited stay permits in hand. And more importantly to ensure immigration doesn't delay expats from getting their KITAP when the law states they have the right to convert their KITAS anytime if they are married to an Indonesian for at leat 2 years.

Don't let Immigration delay you from getting your KITAP. It;s your right under Indonesian law to convert your KITAS immeditaely once your married to an Indonesian for at least 2 years. I applied for my KITAP the same day I received my KITAS just to prove it can be done. They didn't give me a hazzle but were confused on why I wanted to spend additional money for a KITAP when I just got my KITAS.

They said why don't you wait a year as you already have a KITAS! I said it's my right and the law to convert to a KITAP whenever I choose, so I'm exersing my rights today. Today I'm 2-3 weeks away from getting my KITAP.

For science!

Seriously, I think it's a great idea, even if just to see if it can be done.

What's even better is that you've decided to share your experience with us, so thank you for that and keep us updated!

Went to kantorwi got letter and package for kantor jenderal waiting on sms should be next week.

After you have your KITAS you can directly start the KITAP process when married longer than 2 years. After receiving my KITAS it took me about 18 working days to convert it. In fact you go through the same process you would start up a year later when you would need to convert your KITAS to a KITAP. All went very smooth in Jakarta.

Nobody is challenging that you can not request it right away. (When you're married for two years that is, there use to be a minimum amount of KITAS-es before.) But the pertinent questions was, why would you spend the money when you can also 'use up' the ITAS first? Villaparadise answered that by (mainly) summing up the ITAP advantages. (I could add one in his case; just get it over with. The red tape that is.) No problem, everybody's personal choice.
