We went to visit a restaurant in Mega Kuningan, an Italian place called Alba. (Probably @snpark has been there also since he lives on a 1 minute strolling distance.) It is in a new development called One Satrio. The steakhouse in the area looks rather promising. There will also be a Sushi Hiro.

This is obviously not the first based on the model of having an open (green) space with restaurants surrounding it. It’s a bit like an outside food court but more upscale and with the vibe of a western city center. For those in Bali; compare it a bit to Bali Collection in Nusa Dua or for an even better comparison; the Samasta Lifestyle Village in Jimbaran.

Another rather new one is Chillax at Sudirman. We went to Butcher’s, the food is not bad but it gets extremely busy at lunchtime so you’d better make a reservation or come before noon. In the evenings it is not so crowded.

Obviously there are also the two ‘Chinatowns’ from Sedayu which are modeled after an interpretation of the Forbidden City. One is in PIK (Pantjoran), the other -and somewhat nicer one- is Old Shanghai in East Kelapa Gading. It’s worth to visit, esp. in the evening. They serve a lot of babi but no alcohol.

On walking distance from the Old Shanghai there is also a rather new seafood restaurant cluster (Kampoeng Seafood) with covered outside seating.

Then on walking distance from the PIK’s Pantjoran there’s The Cove, a sea boardwalk with some restaurants. If your intestines are lined with lead you can try a seafood platter there. Still, I prefer the area over Ancol anytime. The boardwalk is longer than you might expect so don’t choose the first Restorateur you see. Behind the restaurants there’s also a Kemchicks in the shophouses.

Now the biggest and most impressive is obviously PIK 2. This huge development, with European cities with canals as inspiration is a bit hors catégorie. Even if it is not ready yet, it is not bad to walk around. There are some nice restaurants of which many (soft) open as we speak. Don’t forget there are multiple locations.

I have not been to the Chillax yet...maybe one of these days. PIK2 for sure is nice (and quite a few bars/wine shops)...although in the afternoon...it gets pretty hot especially the Cove and Pantjoran, but at night...relatively cooler and the gentle breeze helps too. Comparing to Singapore where many of the hawker centers, Lau Pa Sat, Clarke Quay, Newton Circus, Singapore always felt humid (and no breeze) last few times I visited.

There are a couple more areas one i think it's in Cipete and another one in Taman Anggrek...I don't remember the names though..

1 minute trolling and strolling
Yes one Satrio opened recently
The plot behind between Ambs mall and JWMARRIOTT

Like a low storey business park but all f&b units
Similar to that Sudirman one

Yes Alba is chef Roberto Firmini he has several of these Albas, one in PiK also
Also he will open a new concept soon firesomething or flamesomething.

It's for sure a very cost effective way to monetize on empty investment Lots in prime locations (Mega Kuningan, Sudirman) until sky scrapers are built there.

Besides the ’gardens’ next to Central Park (where dogs are allowed) I don’t know any other large outside recreation area close to Taman Anggrek. There’s the Hub now, which is besides the new walking bridge between the mall and the newest TA apartment blocks an inside shopping area. Many restaurants, quite nice.

Talking about dogs; in MOI (Mall of Indonesia, Kelapa Gading) you’re also allowed to take them inside, as long as they wear a diaper.

Yep,this could be quite a profitable solution for the owners. I have the feeling the high rise construction might also slow down though. If you see that many bigger companies in Kuningan and Sudirman still offer work from home for 3 days per week. Office space is not that much in demand anymore, quite some companies move out and/or scale down.

I am staying for 3 days in the area of PIK. Any recommendation for (new) restaurants?

If you like sushi, there is an all you can eat called ‘Secret Sushi by Okinawa Sushi’. You order the fresh ones which are rather good, the fried stuff, dessert and drink you get yourself.

In the evening, Black Owl is kinda cool. There’s also one in Kelapa Gading. With live music, rather expensive food and minimum spend table reservations in the weekends. But a nice experience.

Pictures looks cool ... Looks just the place I was looking for. Does one need to make a reservation? Atau bisa masuk aja?

Wait, I just read a review "better make a reservation, because it gets crowded"
Maybe I am too late to make a reservation ...

Not during the day. Evenings yes, weekends definitely. So then the (9PM) time is a cut off from resto to bar and table with minimum charge. Many different rules depending on group size.

Some good recommendations there @jstar ! Will defo check out Black Owl. What about Secret Sushi? Their IG says no reservation, walk-in only. Any experience on how crowded it gets? I'd love to try but I hate waiting in line for restaurants.

Thanks. Yes, even at 2.30 PM it’s rather busy. (We always go outside of rush hours and avoid weekends.) Which is somewhat surprising since it’s not really cheap (300K++ for an adult). And it’s rather compact, from the pictures etc. you could get the impression it’s a sizable restaurant but there are not so many tables and it’s smaller than you might think. The 90 minute rule doesn't really help. Order multiple dishes at once and don’t hold back even if it seems somewhat embarrassing, otherwise you could wait.

Those look interesting, thanks! I have relatives who still mask as a precaution, so more outdoor dining options are great to have

The grand opening of Batavia PIK was honored by the governor DKI Jakarta (who was an hour late, biasa in Indonesia), last night on 24 June 2023. Show started at 19.30 h.
Batavia PIK area is in between PIK1 and PIK2. And what can I say .. as orang Ingris asli say "not my cup of tea". The dance show was nice, though:
