A rant of sorts.
This country is making a mockery of health protocals that they themselves have put in place. It seems more like just lip service so people think they are actually doing something about the pandemic.

Positives and deaths are over the high numbers they had in September now. That is the reported numbers. Even so the government is taking a stance that they have everything under control and no one should worry. Bullshit, they are doing little if anything to manage it or even enforce the health protocols they say they have in place.

Take the PeduliLindungi app. That is a great app to keep people informed of threats and to show your vaccination status. It can keep known positives out of the general population or thise not vaccinated. Unfortunantly, it means nothing to most if thise that are supposed to be utilizing it for patrons to enter a facility. For example.

Mall MBK in Bandar Lampung. Parking entrance. A family arrives and security allows only one of the adults to scan the app. The other just walks in. When this is questioned we are told that it is OK for just one member of a family to scan. Front entrance upon leaving, a group if 5 females walk up, security playing with phone and they all just walk in. I question security and he says it is OK they just came from the coffee shop on the outside and already scanned. I asked when they moved the coffee shop to the parking lot since that is where they just walked from? He didn't care. They seem to have a whole list of excuses for not doing their jobs. Wife talks to a woman that runs one of the shops she frequents. Woman has no vaccines but when asked how she gets in to work she tells her that employees are not scanned. So it seems a contagious employee is good to go since no one would know. We go in and there are a lot of customers but our scan says we are number 326 and 7. I could easily count that many just after entering.

Go to Mandiri bank. No scan, no temp check. Wife gets hurded into a line close enough together that if someone got any closer it would be sexual harrasement. Wife has dental appointment. No app required. Chain coffee shop across the street I go to wait for her and they have the QR code to scan. I use that. It was by accident I even seen it. Not very close to the door and posted on a window. No one that followed me in used it and no employee paid any attention to it.

Last week we got our booster shot. While sitting in Puskesmas we sat side by side with others getting boosters. Right behind us were people still getting no 1 and 2. Yes, some were just getting number one. Where were they for the past year. The government is patting themselves on the back getting people vaccinated but really, is there any excuse to just getting the first one now?

No, the government is failing while claiming they are doing a fantastic job. Their focus is the economy while refusing to realize that covid doesn't care about their economy. It doesn't care about anyone. So, we need to care about it and that fight should be at every government level.

I tried to find an email address for our Lampung and National Kesmas offices but they are not listed anywhere. Their application to report things doesn't work and there is no answer with their listed phone numbers. I would live to write to the woman in charge that is on TV every day proclaiming she is doing such a great job and tell her she's missing a lot. I'm sure you can't reach them because they don't want to hear what a lousy job they are actually doing.

Sometimes I just think the government is going through the motions but don't care if everyone ends up sick.

Mate you should relax, sit back with a beer and enjoy life.

Take the PeduliLindungi app. That is a great app to keep people informed of threats and to show your vaccination status.
But you got me laughing with that one .......
If you really believe that, I suggest 2 beers !

FFS, what the world has come to.....

Most countries have made many mistakes in dealing with COVID-19. Indonesia is not different. Can’t blame the country in regards to someone late getting vaccinated. That’s someone’s personal choice and indonesia in particular have been stricter that most countries when it came to mandatory vaccine. The app, like all tracing apps has huge limitations however I think it was more designed to coerce the unvaccinated into get vax’d which you have to say it was pretty successful in doing. From an extremely slow start, indonesia’s vaccine program has been pretty good, in my opinion.

Luckily, Omicron doesn’t seem to be as ruthless as delta variant and most countries have accepted it will sweep through regardless. By all accounts England will open completely next month. No PCR pre flight, no quarantine and no mask requirement.

If they don't have to scan the app they will never get vaccinated, will they. Sure, the app mput pressure on people to get vaxed but if it isn't used or enforced it won't do it. Maybe when you say it was successful you are talking about Jakarta where they emphasized getting everyone they could vaccinated. Of course it was screw everyone else and they all had to wait for a late start and a slow response from the gov. For many areas where TNI and Police were supposed to administer the vaccines it became a political game where the various political parties were administering the vaccines and they chose small communities and sucked up all the media coverage they could get. It would seem that the TNI, Police, and the political parties for now have lost their chances of being the administrators of the vaccine and it is finally in the hands of the health care providers lik Puskesmas where it should have been since day one. Before being in healthcare it was never known where or when a vaccine could be gotten. It was all today, such and such a place, word of mouth. Now people are being told to just go to their Puskesmas. That is probably why some are getting the first vaccine. Simply because it wasn't available to them before or they didn't hear in time.

The app is designed to do a lot more than just encourage others to get vaccinated if used properly but since the gov isn't enforcing it, it's a failure. While we keep hearing that Omicron isn't so bad I think people are forgetting that isn't necessarily true for unvaccinated and those with other underlying problems. Oh, it's like getting the flu. Well, do you realize what getting the flu means to someone over 60?

If the government is going to produce something to help combat the virus I do not think it is asking too much to expect them to actually use it and enforce it. Government officials all over the place saying they got it handled and it's under control. Just like they said last September when the numbers were the highest. Now the numbers are even higher across the board and it's the same old story. It's bull shit and this government could care less if you live or die as long as a road is build or a race track. It's all about getting tourist back in and evidently not caring if they send them home testing positive. Of course if tested positive here they get to go into isolation centers where some fat cat is getting fatter. Indonesia had a lot of examples to follow after other nations figured things out but chose to ignore them. Indonesia got the virus later than many but paid no attention. Indonesia has less excuses than other nations.

The mind boggles seeing the level of brainwashing ....
Lockdowns, quarantines, forced vaccinations, etc.... since 2 years all governments have been at this. Nothing has changed. It does NOT work.
In my professionnal life if some department manager tried 3 or 4 methods solving a problem, spend huge sums of money for little or no result he gets sacked.

Now, blame it on the unvaxed.... them horrible untermenschen !
Worse is that 80% of the population adheres to it, and willingly gives away freedom and privacy.
I dont want to imagine what would be the majority's behaviour in case of a real disaster like Chernobyl or war......

Probably kill all the people who are "different" ?

I’m just lamenting the rise of the idiocracy and anti-intellectualism. Vaccination was not controversial, until it became a political issue in USA and then exported all over the world.

As for Indonesian government, they have a well deserved reputation for prioritizing appearance over substance. Nothing new here.

It's all about the economy at any and all cost including people's lives. Still, if you implement something like the PL app, you should make sure it is being used. The virus really doesn't care about the economy.

Considering vaxed and non vaxed can both be positive, the PL thing is useless.

Fair play for making it all the way to 2022 before resorting to reductio ad Hitlerum...

But come on - no one's advocating slaughter of the unvaxxed. Sit in the shade for a bit, eh.

I have so little faith in Indo gov’t that the existence of the app alone amazes me.

People are tired. Covid has been with us for almost 2 years now. The gov’t is just going through the motion. I think they made a cold calculation that the economy and the government can’t survive further restrictions, while the overpopulated nation can stand losing several thousand people.

PL app is a bit funny. Apparently if you have had one jab in Indonesia and the second one abroad, submitting the evidence from abroad is rejected so even if you are fully vaccinated, technically you aren't allowed in certain areas. My wife has had to start carrying her vaccine card with her every time she wants to go to the mall.

I think they have handled it pretty well, especially since the original health minister got fired and replaced by someone competent, and Luhut took over the process. The vaccination process and the PL app are both way better than anyone would have predicted.
My main issue is the way they have downgraded the importance of education. Most kids have studied almost nothing for 2 years unless their parents have been able to help them. However malls and mosques are kept open. That is definitely a case of wrong priorities, with big consequences for the future of the country.

Edit: I have noticed from observing the extended family that the main way parents assist with education is through things relating to religion (eg tell kids to learn pages of the koran or learn some Arabic words). In terms of assisting with Maths, English, Science or something useful for their futures, there has been very little assistance given since the parents themselves don't know the material.

Yeah - in families where they have no internet or computers the kids basically couldnt do any schooling - so the poor will suffer the most in this.

There is going to be a huge gap due to lost time and the ones affected the most are Grades 7 and below(development lost).

FWIW, lately, I think the Indonesian gov't is doing much better with the Covid response. For example, prior to the current Omicron wave, they increased quarantine length, but as it is now clearly rampant in Indonesia, there is not much reason for it, so it is reduced. Meanwhile, the prior quarantine (and luck) has postponed the wave in Indonesia by about 2-3 weeks, allowing several million more people to get vaccinated, and those who need to boostered. Is it the best strategy? Maybe not, but at least it is logically consistent. Certainly good enough, when considering Indonesia's socio-economic situation.

The PL app is kinda silly. It would work well in a higher income, urban population country, with people used to following public directives (Singapore, HK, Japan). But Indonesia has no hope. What percentage of people even have smartphones with data packages? Anecdotally, I have never bothered to scan the app, and no one ever asked me to, even though the barcodes are right there. In fact, I recommend force-stopping the app, as it is otherwise 100% on all the time.

I too think that on the whole, the government is getting better. They certainly took quicker steps during this Omicron wave. Back in the second wave in mid-2021, it felt like forever before a decisive step was taken.

Outside of storing your vaccine certificates, I think that LP is at the mercy of whether the person using it can be bothered to scan and whether the person checking the scan can be bothered to check. From my experience, looking like you're scanning the QR code is enough to go into a place. I've legitimately not had a signal but I've only gotten a sympathetic smiles and been directed to walk in instead "I'm sorry it's the rules" or "Please check in at the main lobby where you may have a better signal".

Overall iam on the same page as Balifrog and think there was and is a lot to be desired whent it comes to common sense or logic. Also a lot of misinformation from all kind of sides. Anyway, that's not what I want to talk about here

Just my experiences from Batam. When all of this PPKM stuff started last year, they had road blocks and all and checked for vaccine certificates. Only about 3 days and then almost no one gave a damn about it anymore. Some police man told me they are tired of all the arguing and complaints. Dunno if that is true or not, but it is what he said.
In shopping malls and supermarkets I was easily able to enter it with my letter from the hospital that I cannot be vaccinated at the moment, which is not a fake to be clear since I really have problems that make it kinda risky to get the vaccine, same goes for my wife.
On top of that MOST malls had at least one door without any checks and that was pretty much on purpose in my opinion. Now since a few months already no place checks for anything except temperature. Restaurants never asked for any vaccine, at least the ones I know and frequently visit.

The situation here is pretty relaxed compared to Jakarta and similar places I guess. Except for school. All children are double vaccinated by now, at least 90% of the stundents that go to this school at least. Just last time they had 2 cases again, or a positive test to be precise. So the school is closed again. Makes total sense, since everyone is vaccinated. Of course not against Omicron or the next and next next variant. So I guess at some point somebody will say stop, or this stuff will go on forever. Since it seems like the idea of trying to protect hospitals from being full has become the idea of prevent any kind of disease and beating death itself at all costs.
Anyway like I said, except for school (at the least the school my daugther visits) daily life is still pretty relaxed here.

Ps: forgot cinema. I can go to the mall without being vaccinated, sit in the restaurants inside of the mall with no mask but can't go to cinema without being vaxxed. Well, at least they follow the protocol..😅
Also I don't wanna complain too much. I follow all the health protocols as far as I can and I hope this mess will be over soon.

Yep, like the QR bollocks...
They want it in malls even if the place is deserted. Like Carrefour here in Bali
But :
No need for it in the Pura, Mosque or Church
No need for it in Jakarta to enter the train station, subway or bus station ?
It is a joke, but OK I prefer the joke than the dictatorship rules in Europe !

And as you said, there are ways....
