The US presidential debate - Trump Biden!

Heaven help America... and the world for that matter. Biden started with that frail, shaky voice as if he needed to clear his throat. Nothing that he said throughout the debate would have reassured people that he is up for the job and the couple of spots where he kind of lost the tread... ohh dear. And then Trump who has no regard for the truth about anything and often ignored questions to carry on with his attack. The simplistic arguments about the threat of all the illegals flooding into America because of Biden and how he will make America great again.

I think there is a strong probability at the Democratic convention that Biden will lose support and someone else will be nominated. I don't see Kamala Harris getting the nod so who might be put up....?

Kamala Harris has a poorer rating than Biden. A possible nominee would be Sherrod Brown, the Ohio senator. 71 years old. A progressive on many issues and a substantial political career. Much will depend on whether or not Biden sees the writing on the wall. If he nominates Kamala Harris then I think Trump is the next president.

I have been arguing for years that US political offices need age limits. Not age limits on when you run but age limits on when you are shown the door. This debate pretty much supports my argument.

Newsome is out there saying he's ready to step up and my guess is that if Biden is replaced it would be by him. Kamala wouldn't have a chance and that is why she is right now out there telling people to ignore the 90 minutes and concentrate on the last 3.5 years. I think people are going to concentrate on the now.

Already a bunch of voices out there calling for Michelle Obama but she is too smart for that. She knows she would be a target for the skinhead, KKK, white supremacists, redneck hillbilly in breads. While she may be willing to give her life for her country, I doubt she would be willing to give it so someone could be a hero for the demon led maga cult.

CNN wasn't too helpful letting trump just say whatever he wanted and do little of addressing the questions Biden did in fact answer even if sometime it was clumsy. Fact checking trump his statements on almost every speaking chance were lies. Biden, while the majority of his responses were factual did get up in the clouds sometimes.

Biden's wife Jill is a pretty smart lady and looks after his best interest. I think it will be she that pulls him aside and tell him it's time to step aside.

I don't think age limits are a good idea. Some people remain sharp at a very advanced age. Maybe cognitive tests are a better option.
I agree Newsome will likely have the nomination. Biden was lost in the ether during the debate as he so often is. Another thing about Michelle is that she is completely unqualified.
Trump told some whoppers as did Biden. Biden may not know it but he was very wrong about Trump's comments on Charlottesville.
I think Jill encouraged Joe to run and manages him. I don't know if she will willingly walk away from the White House.

It’s a bit like JFK again in ‘60. Democratic Convention in August.

There are three names floating around: California Governor Gavin Newsom, his counterpart J.B. Pritzker from Illinois or Gretchen Whitmer from Michigan.

Newsom stated he won’t do it.

Gavin Newson suffers from dyslexia. Not enough to prevent him from having a very successful career but I can just hear Trump saying, "Do we really want to have as president a man who has trouble with reading spelling and working numbers?"

Gretchen Whitmer is a woman and I don't think she is well enough known to offset the prejudices that still confront a woman in the public spotlight. So unless Biden pumps for a particular candidate I suspect that Sherrod Brown could be a front runner.

But we've been repeating it over and over for the last 30 years, each cycle with seemingly worse candidates. This time it's beyond ridiculous.

I think all of the talk of the DNC stepping in and choosing a different candidate other than Biden wouldn't go over well with some voters regardless of the candidate they choose. No one in America would have voted for the candidate in the primary process, so they will be pissed at the candidate that was chosen for them. Many people will feel they had no say and will be butt hurt. This played out once in the Obama/Clinton primary battle with DNC supervoters. If someone is going to replace Biden, it must come across as Biden's idea.

Choices like Michelle Obama smack of nepotism. Party loyalists don't care, but a lot of swing voters do. It highly adds to the dislikability of a candidate. These were issues for Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush.

I agree that the debate was a debacle! Trump should have been fact checked, and made to answer the questions, and Biden should have been taking performance enhancing drugs! He came across as a weak old man! Sad!

Trump should have been fact checked, and made to answer the questions

Trump's misstatements included that as president he would have capped the cost of insulin before Biden did, that Democratic states allow executing babies after birth, that there were no terrorist attacks during his presidency, that Biden wanted to quadruple people's taxes and that Biden had him (Trump) legally prosecuted.

Trump also claimed that millions of migrants in the country are coming from prisons and mental institutions and are engaging in widespread “murder and rape” of American citizens. However, crime rates in the US are lower among migrants than among US citizens.

Biden also made some incorrect claims. For example, he said that Trump had been convicted because he had sex with a porn star. Also, Biden said Trump had sex with Daniels while his wife was pregnant. (Melania had a young child in 2006, but was not pregnant.)
