Hello,

What is implication with our Indonesian bank account and mobile number if a WNI renounce his / her Indonesian citizenship due to having new citizenship from other country? Will they still work or will they stop working immediately?
Any ex-WNI done this before?

Thanks
Eldo.

If you have the correct visa and legal status to live and work here then what's the problem?
Why would there be?
Just update the bank with your new passport copy and kitas and npwp.
If you don't have a visa to live here you might find they close it if they are efficient

But changing your nationality isn't a crime. Like for marriage etc. Do you still have your ID card?
Who is your new sponsor? Spouse or work?

Let me explain my situation:
I am an (ex) WNI who has been living in Europe for years and recently got a citizenship from that country. I do not have kitas or kitap as before this, I was a full Indonesian citizen. But now technically I'm no longer a WNI since Indonesia does not recognize dual citizenship. To follow the rule, I think I need to report and renounce my WNI to the embassy. This will also be handy if in the future I want to apply C318 visa as an ex-WNI and move back to Indonesia. CMIIW.

Meanwhile, currently I still have Indonesian bank account and phone number that were created based on my status as WNI few years back. And I'd like to keep them if possible as they are useful when I come to Indonesia or when I need to buy something online for my relatives or friends in Indonesia. My question is will they still be functioning once I officially renounce my WNI?

I don't see why they wouldn't be except for the reason you have been out of the country for 6 months and now don't have a kitas or imta

Yes, they will function. But you are obliged to report your status to the bank and submit a new document-foreign passport.

Following that, the bank will close your accounts if you do not have KITAS, especially IDR accounts. Some banks will allow you to have a non-resident non-IDR account.

Following this thread. Similar situation except I actually want to close mine 😅

Not worth making a special trip to Indonesia just to close it, so looks like I can close it after I get my new passport. Thanks to everyone responding
