The derail from Going to College thread

Well with no place how do you intend entering with no visa
I'm on a visa with my husband who has a researcher grant from the Indonesian government. I can't tell if you mean to be rude by assuming about my life or if your personality is just overly blunt

What does it take for a foreigner to go to college there. I'm interested in the Institute of Arts in Jakarta and I guess I'm wondering what would be good to get before we travel so I could be ready to apply.

Read your opening post before you bad mouth people
Foreigner asking about college courses
No mention of Indonesian husband etc

So perfectly fair to ask what visa you will come in on as you would need a student visa but you don't even have a place yet

I don't think I have to lay out my entire life in order to obtain simple information.

There are also ways to ask if I have a visa without assuming I just don't have one. If I'm asking about furniture and schooling, would it not be safe to assume I already have procured passage into Indonesia?

I have learnt not to assume anything.
Since you are new, it is perfectly reasonable to inquire what visa you will have when you enter

I don't know what furniture has to do with student visa.

I can walk into the car showroom and ask how much is that car.
Doesn't mean I'm going to buy it

I don't think you have actually learned to not assume anything, since you assumed I don't have a visa. You could have asked, but instead you assumed I didn't have one.

Sometimes you are just an ass. No, many times you are. She has posted other topics that explained just what she was doing here and you participated in some. You didn't need to assume anything, you could have just remembered but gee, how can you get attention if you don't challenge this young lady. You could have just answered her question if you actually had an answer or passed it by. No, you need to get your name on every topic just to be seen or something. You don't know? Then shut up and don't participate with the particular question.

@all users,
Please ignore @snpark' s posts in this thread and keep focus on trying to help @MilliVanilli in her query.
A moderation discussion concerning @snpark recurrent jerky posts has been started and the outcome shouldn't be long.
Thank you.

@snpark just chill ok? There's no need to make OP uncomfortable. As several people have already pointed out, not only does OP does NOT need to explain all her life to you, but the information she has already provided is sufficient. You just didn't read carefully and you made an ass out of yourself, once again.

Anyway @MilliVanilli, I suggest you just ignore him. I'm sorry I cannot provide useful advice as I have no experience in what you are trying to achieve but I wish you good luck nonetheless.

But at least I didn't call her an ass?

Bit hypocritical / double standards or not?

Did I insult her? Or just ask what visa she had but in a short and abrupt way
But because I'm a long term poster does that mean it's ok for other members to call me an ass ?

I presume the same punishments will be handed out to others for their "jerky" posts to me.

Or I just accept it because I've got thick skin.

Sometimes I get confused with this forum

This thread is about student things. Nothing to do with furniture.

If I am supposed to connect every post and thread that she has done before I reply then tell her to combine them all into one.

Yes I saw she also looking for furniture. Even more reason to imply she is new to the country and is not aware of visa rules

Case closed

Thankyou

Whats the point of this? Seems like everyone has said there bit already. Yes snpark can be a bit blunt but i suspect its because he spends time advising people on expat facebook groups who are a bit more difficult to deal with. He is a valuable addition to the forum even if occasionally blunt.

I feel like this new thread is just a chance for people to attaack each other....is it really necessary?

I appreciate it, I also appreciate this being moved from the original post. I hate to push back like that, but I hate when people feel like they deserve all of your life story or assume that they know everything about your life based on one single post.

I definitely was not seeking for this thread to be created. I just felt like I was getting the 5th degree from someone who was offering me literally no information, but was expecting a lot of information from me.

Again you are over reacting and making a drama and big deal

I just asked what visa. So we can advise better.

What's the problem with that??
I still don't understand why you got all upset.

It's a perfectly reasonable question. You are outside Indonesia and asking about becoming a student. An obvious follow up to consider is your visa status.

No one asked or frankly gives a toss about your personal life.

You asked for advice about becoming a student / enrolling etc.

A pertinent question would also be about your visa

That's all. Simple. I'm at a loss as to why you are so offended?

Anyway good luck with your furniture and becoming a student

The issue I had was that you didn't ask about my visa, you said I didn't have one, which is really annoying to someone who has a visa and has lined up a place to live and has also been trying to navigate a website in a foreign language using Google translate and having a hard time finding concrete information. I just wanted some info, not the 5th degree from some internet stranger. So sorry if I'm kind of grumpy right now, I'm in the middle of uprooting my entire life and my child so my husband can finally conduct his research which has been on hold since 2020 and it's a lot. I'm literally trying to navigate my entire move to a new country I've never even been to from the internet and I'm trying to continue my education because I have been in college for the last 3 years and don't want to lose my pace.

I didn't say you didn't have a visa of some sort, I was talking about the student visa, if you are applying to be a student then you get a special student visa, but if you do not have a place yet at Uni then you can't get that visa so how will you enter? As a tourist? etc etc etc

Had you been more forthcoming in your original post and said "BTW I am married and my husband will sponsor me" then that is different and also actually effects your Uni application because you are a local / domestic entry rather than international and that is a different process for applying here

So you see, the more information you provide, the more useful the information will be that we can give you

As a foreigner living here under her husband's sponsorship, that is a different process and quota system.

There are even grants and bursary (scholarships) available Did you contact your embassy or consulate here yet?

It seems there was a lot of misreading communication on both sides. I didn't really know if my husband's visa and bringing us in was important so I didn't include it originally, which is my mistake. Currently I'm in contact with the Indonesian Consulate here in America because I read that I need to have a letter from them, so I am going there in the next few weeks to talk with someone and also bring them my referrals from my current college. Since everyone is just getting off of Eid it has been very slow going, but some other things mentioned in the schools guidelines were a certificate of graduation from the Indonesian government, which I assume I'll have to get when there, proof from an optometrist that I am not colorblind and proof of health from a doctor and I'm not sure if I should get that here or there, we will have insurance so I can do it either places, and another thing was a certification from some group that says I am not on drugs, and I assume I'll have to do that there, since America doesn't have a place that certifies that.

And I am not totally sure how my husband's visa is going to affect applying. He is also an American, but he was an Indonesian Fulbright Winner this year and so the Indonesian government is offering him a research visa and we are his dependents and we are all sponsored through AMINEF I believe, or another similar institution that is connected to CSIS.
