Hello, I am interested in finding a rental home near Ubud. I want to be far enough away for quiet surroundings, and less traffic, but close enough for shopping. I need a place with drivable access, not many steep stairs, preferably with AC, hot water, WiFi, TV, (optional), preferable with a view, I already have a full kitchen equipment setup. If anyone knows of a place available, or a real estate agent, or someone with knowledge of home rentals available, please give me their contact information. Thanks

Budget ?

I have a budget of being able to pay up to 5 juta a month, maybe more depending on the quality of the house and easement, accessibility, amenities, etc. Thanks for asking!

Just my 5 cents, but I would look first for a montly rental in a resort or hotel and use that period to visit the different parts of the island and see what it has to offer.
It is what we did, one year contract in a resort with the idea to look around for the "dream villa".
After 3 months we realized that we were better off staying at the resort. Swiming pool 25m, nice garden, free wifi and cable TV, free hot / cold water and in case of any problem the staff takes care.
I think for a single person or couple it makes a lot of sense. You have a wide range in size / location / budget and at 71 / 55 old you don't need 150 sq m or 3 bedrooms...

Yes, that is what I noticed 2 years ago. We visited a friend from Holland who was staying at Kumala Pantai hotel in Jimbaran/Bali. We wanted to stay there too, but it was fully booked ... for years. Huh?
In this hotel I saw only Australian senior citizens. Apparently living like you suggests in your post.

In the last 12 months there has been a huge surge upwards for rentals around popular areas. And unfortunately it is still trending upwards. A very ordinary small house and you are looking at 8 or 10 juta a month. Given your mobility problems if you were to pay someone a finders fee of maybe 2 or 3 juta to look for a suitable place, this might help. Good luck.

Where I stay, we are 3 "long term" residents.
An Aussie pensioner, a Middle East couple and us.
The first year I try to convince the (money) manager to rent out 10 to 15% of the bungalows on long term status. But of course the answer was "I make more money on short term rental". Yes, if you were 100% full booked all year...
Then Covigedon struck. On 33 bungalows only 2 were occupied. One by the owner, one by us. After that she understood my theory....
Bread, butter, marmelade.

That sounds great. I am single so I don't need 2 or 3 bedrooms. I am staying at a senior living facility now, that provides 3 meals a day. Not very good cooking. Kind of like village style. Way too much chicken! I do have my own kitchen set up, so I cook my own food when I want. I have a nice room, with AC, large flat screen TV, huge window by my bed, overlooking a nice back porch, where I have lots of pots, for my vegetables, and Orchids, with a creek behind. I had to buy my own Refrigerator, 5 gal. Water stand, etc.
The one problem is the rent. It is high and taking all of my monthly pension $. It's stressing me out, knowing I am spending more than what's coming in.
I was thinking, I could find a new place, small but adequate, hire a Pembantu to cook and clean sometimes, somewhere in the surrounding Ubud area. Probably at a families compound, Where I could go into town occasionally, to shop, and maybe eat at a cafe sometimes.
I would be willing to buy my own TV, but I do like having AC, so that's a must for a new place. I would be willing to pay someone to look around, then I could come and inspect the place, to see if it fits my needs.
I don't want a high walls surrounding me without a view. Too much like Krobokan!

Coincidentally I am at present reading a book abut the Russian monarch, his wife three daughters and young, chronically ill son before and after the revolution. From a life of great wealth and privelige with a grand palace and servants they were held for over a year in dank, difficult conditions and surrounded by crude guards who delighted in their humiliation unable to see anything outside of their imprisonment and little contact with others but for an occasional exchange of letters. Then they were murdered by the Bolsheviks. A reminder of how fickle life can be.

In Jimbaran we had leased one place for 5 years and a nearby place for two years. Our lease is due to expire again as the owner of the present house wants to renovate and put up the price. We are moving to a pleasant small house but surrounded by a high wall. Traffic in the area is such that it now takes at least half an hour to travel less then 3 ks. Of course we could move well away from this area and find better and more affordable accommodation but my wife's daughter and sister are close by and as we age, close to necessary facilities so I make this concession. But with all that, still better off than in Australia where there is said to be another million or so people finding it difficult to cover their rents and in danger of joining the several hundred thousand already homeless.

You will be lucky to find an affordable house that meets all your expectations but hopefully by moving away from the most in demand parts of Ubud you may succeed. Let us all know how you fare.

No way I would entrust someone to find a home for me. Besides that a local has no clue about what I want, and don't want, this is opening the door for a perfect rip off !
Agreed on the high walls, no way for me. And large windows mandatory.
Can't understand the choice of Ubud. Went there one time and for once the Miss and me instantly agreed "No way".
Tourist trap + the vegan/meditation/"spiritual" crowd.. perfect combination of everything I can't stand.
For our French members : it is a horrible marriage between Lourdes and the Mont St Michel.

The reason I thought about Ubud is because I lived in Padang Bai for the duration of Covid. You are probably right about trusting a local to find a place for me. They think more of the $ than my needs, or understand what I like. I spent most of my time watching YouTube to keep me company. I could go down to the local Warung and sit with the owners, who spoke English, and the occasional tourist would come through, but not many people to talk too. Plus it is hotter than hell there! So I thought if I moved near Ubud, I could have some more contact with English speaking people. I don't care about the all the Yogini's. They are boring to me too. Too fluffy! I lived there for many years, back when I had an import business, so I know all about the tourist BS. Plus there 3 supermarkets to find foods I like, Olive oil, cheeses, Haas avocados, Harum Manis mangos, decent seafood, etc. Where I live now, North of Mengwi, it is all Balinese locals. I like the locals, but we are on a different wavelength of thinking. So where to move too? Padang Bai is mostly locals only, and too hot, and here is too expensive, and boring with locals only. Anywhere south such as Sanur, Kuta, Jimbaran, Canngu, etc. is too busy for me. I'm not a digital Nomad, and don't need gyms, or fancy juices!

I also am single and not into chasing women at clubs anymore. Candidasa is OK for Markit, but I don't know if it's for me. So that's why I thought a nice place, somewhere outside of Ubud. Your idea about long term hotel rental is OK, if I have a nice room, big porch where I can grow my garden pots, big windows, AC, WiFi, etc. so for now I am just throwing out ideas, because this place is nice, but way too expensive for my budget. So for now I will just be happy with what I've got, and see what comes. Thanks

FYI, I have a REAL kitchen, living room, bathroom and a bedroom upstairs.
I am not into gardening or plants, so not an issue for me.
But my lodging budget is double yours.

That's great for you, to have a larger buget.
I am not really single, only 71 and still on women chasing, music bars and J.D.
Friday today, so at 4:00 pm off for a few drinks.
that's great for you, rock on big Daddy!
Why Bali? Especially for a new move to a new place.
I prefer to live on Bali. I have been living off and on Bali, for over thirty years, and am quite familiar with the roads, and people.
60 juta per year. 5 juta per month.
I just don't believe you can find a nice house in a nice location, for $600 a year.

In my area the highest rental price I have ever seen was 50juta and that was for a newly constructed 4 bedroom 160M2 house in a new housing area. That said, I think that in Bali you will not find something nice for a 60juta budget.

Not looking for a nice house for $600 a year?
There is a 2 BR place in my Kampung that rents for $750 US per year and it's not that bad. Of course it wouldn't be up to most standards but I find it quite likable. My wife rents it for her staff to stay in.
