Did you know that the standard shortcuts you would use in a text editor such as Word also work on the forum?

Ctrl + b will activate bold
Ctrl + i will activate italic
Ctrl + u will activate underline

On Mac, replace Ctrl with Command.

That's good for alternatives to those without a mouse but I note that to paste I get a pop-up to use Ctrl-v. What's wrong with the old way to right click on the paste sign when it appears. I can right click to copy but need to use Ctrl-v to paste the same copy....seems illogical to me. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong...its no biggge.

I have been having one or two hit & miss problems with quoting other posts & getting smilies up - probably connectivity at my end... but maybe I am not alone in this.

That's odd. Would you be able to take a screenshot and post it here?

What do you mean exactly?

So I just hit quote on your post and I am typing away here & it is not offering up a quote nor to insert one...hmmm

As for the smilies I managed to get the list up once and not once...
& the other day I tried to insert a link into the Manch arena bomb post but no link showed (that was on my other computer in Jakarta- laptop Win10
Today am on my mac mini in BDG

@Bad_azz and @fastpitch17, are you following these instructions exactly?

Note that the screenshots I took in the link above are for the desktop version. On mobile they might be switched around a bit. The insert quotes button is on the right on mobile for instance:

I just found that- silly me- but I like where I eventually inserted it- see VHs post : My Room ;)

1. Don't know how to take a screenshot...I'm bodoh but....
I can scroll through your quote and it turns blue and I right-click and get a pop-up says Select All; Cut; Copy; Paste. When I right-click where I want to paste I get another pop-up saying 'Please use Ctrl+V/Cmd+V keyboard shortcuts to paste...when I do that it pastes OK.... but before it would simply paste on the mouse click .

2.Re: B-A's issue...also have the same but I know how it works now....if I press quote it changes from a + to a - and it appears at the bottom of the empty reply box but off-screen until scrolled down. Clicking on it brings another box with the quote, which can be modified, before adding to the empty reply box.

I propose a game of making a thread from all the quotes we have collected and forgot or not been able to apply :D
It could make for some abstract reading- a form of modern un-installation art perhaps.

Saw that. All good then!

What browser are you using? Microsoft Edge by any chance?

@El_Goretto. Not sure if this will help you or not but I noticed that there's a delay when you click '+Quote' before the text is displayed in the editor. Instead of taking the text directly from the html, it's querying the database for it by using an AJAX request.

fastpitch17 and Bad_azz are probably using Safari if they're on an iPad or a Mac, so it's likely that this editor isn't as cross-browser compatible as it could be. There's probably a Javascript error happening after they click '+Quote'.

You'd need to check Safari's console for Javascript errors to be certain though.

I'm not using Ipad nor a mac but it takes three clicks to get the quotes onto the blank reply screen...in the past clicking quote displayed directly onto the screen.
Thanks E-G...I have Google chrome installed but I'm familiar with AOL. It's not a big issue if its just me...I can cope. I'll give Google a shot later and see how that works.

The quote button and the reply button next to it behave differently. Please read the explanation I posted there again.

To do what you wanna do, you need to hit "reply": this will copy the quoted message straight into the quick reply box. This is good if you only need to quote one whole message.

To quote multiple whole messages, simply hit +quote. It will add the quoted message to a sort of "quote clipboard" that carries over anywhere on the forum (you can quote one or several message(s) from one thread into another thread). Then to insert one or more of the quotes in your clipboard in whatever order you wish into whichever thread you wish, you hit the "insert quotes" button below the quick reply box.

You can also do all of the above (quote or reply) to a partial message. If you want to quote part of a post, like the first paragraph, you just highlight it and little red button appears giving you the option to quote or reply. What happens next is the same as what I've described above.

Yes, it queries the database because it needs to find the original post and poster I suppose, not just the text.

I'll test on my wife's iPad to see if I'm having troubles too.

I don't use Safari... chrome is my browser.
