We are looking for English-speaking volunteers (WNI/WNA acceptable) to participate in our charity program in Jakarta. This program is jointly run with ChildFund Indonesia (https://www.childfund.org/Indonesia/) for their after-school education program for underprivileged students in Indonesia. This is an ideal chance to get to know the local way of life, give back to the local community and practice Bahasa Indonesia!

Further information:
- The program will commence next academic semester ie August 2018 for an indeterminate time period
- This is for the volunteers to start introducing English language to primary school students (aged 7 - 13), once a month on Sundays for about 1-2 hours at resident houses in Lebak Bulus area
- No required minimum age or qualification other than speaking English fluently
- The volunteers don't need to commit for an entire semester
- We can provide syllabus as guideline
- We may require basic background checks before commencing, as part of our child protection measures
- All aspects of this program are charitable ie no one receives payments for the services to the children

Please contact our volunteer coordinator Ella at 0813 2680 9286 or [email protected] if you're interested. We would appreciate it if we can have your indication of interest by 15th July 2018. Thanks for your attention and have a great day!

Cant volunteer as an expat or they'll come down on you like a ton of bricks and accuse you of working illegally without a KITAS

Well I'm no expert on expat visas, but from my understanding is you do officially need KITAS or Sosbud visa to do non-paid volunteering work (either this or it hasn't been very clear cut). Although it sounds like it's rarely enforced (from what I gather in the discussion forums), as a registered institution we cannot simply dismiss this as a non issue. So we caution the WNAs who are interested to volunteer to use their best judgment with regards to the permit requirements. Thank you for your input, Sir!

Let me have the detail, I and my wife will try come down from Puncak(Cianjur) to help out.

It seem Wina is interested with bule people. Until now no reply . Well guys/gals it seem people want to take advantage people in this forum.

It's possible you are right, but it's equally possible you are being too harsh. She indicated an interest in both WNI and WNA in her first post. And how much time elapsed between your offer and your complaint - fewer than 48 hours, it looks like. (It's a little hard for me to tell because I'm on the other side of the dateline and my computer says your second post was "yesterday," whatever the heck that means.)

Anyway, we all often expect very quick responses when we post something in the forum, but perhaps Wina is busy and only checks this thread a few times a week. Have you tried sending her a PM?

Greetings Puspawarna. Nope I did not. Because I want to see if she really genuinely want help. Since I live here I come to be curios on someone is new(here). Even relative of your spouse can stab you on the back why not others. Am I right to assume this?

Nonsense.

If you really want to help, why don't you call the phone number or send an email to email address provided? It's clearly the beta and fastest way.

Why is an advert for illegal workers allowed on the forum?
Surely it would be better to remove in in case an expat with no knowledge of the potential trouble they could get into applies.

She indicated an interest in both WNI and WNA in her first post

The latter being illegal.

Let me know if there are any groups like yours in manado . If love to do that.
Hey mate,
To my knowledge, we don't have similar group in Manado but I could certainly put you in touch with two LSM which may be interested by your offer of service. One is a french one which train and give course to farmers and the other one is an American one which helps women who have been victim of human trafficking and abuse.

Alternatively, you can contact any primary school in your hood. I am pretty certain they would be interested by your time, and kids in the villages around you certainly wouldn't have the means to pay for a course. If you need a translator to explain what you could do for them, I gladly volunteer some of my time to accompany you.

Well. That is my opinion and if you don't like I can't do anything. It is his own way of life. If she reply on the first why is not mine until now.

Why? Because she hasn't logged in since 11th of May and your question was on 12th of May.

She had already provided contact details so I don't see any problem.

Your opinions are fine as long as they are logical. Your assumptions regarding her intentions are based on no evidence and are absolutely unfair.

I agree with Puspawarna and El_Goretto. Contact her immediately to the details above and thinking that she might be busy were my first reaction. When I could think and respond like that why couldn't DzulnSiti? Well oh well......
We need more positivity.. Be positive be be positive :cheer2::cheer2:

Hi guys, apologies for the absence in responses as indeed I haven't logged in since then. The reason is actually pretty innocent ie I thought I'd see notifications in my emails so I've been thinking the forum has lost interest in my post. To be honest, I didn't expect such development from my initial post!

To clarify, we accept non bule, as indicated in my first post. This is a genuine request for support for our program to help underprivileged students learn English, bule or non bule. I did post this in expat forum, which is probably why some people think there's a preference for bule. The actual intention was to get a few volunteers from different countries/cultures to increase interest and attendance from the children. We still source our local volunteers separately, providing a variety of experience for the children.

DzuInSiti is welcome to apply, which we're grateful for, but note that there'll be screening process as is common SOP for volunteers dealing with vulnerable children. Unfortunately we don't have such program in Manado yet. We'll post updates if there are initiatives in other regions.

That said, I'll encourage people interested to start sending their CVs as the program will start next month! Thanks all.

Hi all, would like to raise your attention to this post again as we still need more volunteers and it's now a good time to sign up if you're interested! The sessions will start next month and the children are eager to start learning English!

Do call/message Ella at 0813 2680 9286 or send her an email at [email protected] with your questions or straightaway shoot us with your CV and preferred dates and time (eg weekends/morning). We don't need a detailed CV - this is part of the formality of screening process. There will be a short interview after, and if everything is alright, we'll arrange the scheduling with you and then, off you go!

The children and I are looking forward to hearing from you soon!

PS: And I'd be remiss if I didn't thank the people who have put good faith in my post despite my prolonged absence!

Hi guys, this is to update you that the program is still ongoing, thanks to the generous time and effort from volunteers. Attached is a picture of our monthly English lesson class. The children are enthusiastic and looking forward for the lessons. It was so successful that there are requests from other RWs for such classes. So we do need more volunteers! If you're interested, please send your CV to [email protected] or ask your questions to our volunteer coordinator Ella at 0813 2680 9286. We don't need elaborate CVs, but please note that there will be basic screening on all applicants (CV and interview) as part of child protection SOP.

Thanks and have a good day!

Wina
