Does anyone have any reliable statistics of tourism for this year and if it has reached prepandemic levels? I search for a while and only got articles comparing it to last year. Japan is killing it this year. They have visa free for 71 countries including Indonesia. Thailand has almost hit prepandemic level again too. Again, massive visa free exemptions.

While not having to pay for a visa is nice because of the savings, I think mostly it is the thought of the crowding and delays at an airport processing visa on arrival that acts to the disadvantage of a country seeking to attract more tourists. And this present extra tax on arrival in Bali is a serious miscalculation of public relations. Clearly the local authorities are just counting the money without thought for the confusion and inconvenience that this new tax involves.

The terrible lack of instructions or signposts when you arrive is a huge part of the issue. If you have an evoa you can go straight to the gate but do they actually tell you that anywhere? Other signs say all passports but then that doesnt actually include kitas etc......so many issues that could easily be fixed.
