Nepal - EBC Trekking April 2023

just returned from Everest Base Camp trekking two weeks ago. Very enjoy the trip, wish to comeback again next year for longer duration at least a month.
A bit challenging for both of us who are 115 years old in total. Wife got mild AMS but we managed to reach EBC 5356 m above sea level.

Hey Wisnu,

You reminded me of my trip back in 2019. I did it till Kala Patthar, which was 5540 m, and never got a chance to do the summit as it is too expensive. If I ever get sponsored, I will love to do it.

Congrats Wisnu. Seems quite the accomplishment! Your pictures are beautiful as always.

I‘ve only seen Everest when flying into Katmandu more than a decade ago. I definitely won’t be climbing up it!

we skipped kala pathar, too lazy to wake up early; and we had more comfortable way to see everest better than kala pathar.
Everest peak is different beast; far beyond our capability. I don't even dream of it.

Helicopter tour could be an option if trekking is not possible. Even, the view was more amazing.

Oh, I think my wild adventuring days are mostly over. I can barely climb into a Kijang these days.

The last time I was in Nepal, I had a large crowd following me around, and giving me the Brad Pitt treatment. Old ladies and kids wanted to touch my Buddha-like tummy. I had to escape into a gift shop. This was 2011, so I’d probably get a larger crowd today.

At Dingboche we met a mountaineer from Hungary, Suhajda Szilárd who was doing acclimatization before climbing Everest without oxygen and also without support from sherpas. He had successfully summited K2 without oxygen and Sherpas.
We really enjoyed having chat with him and got lot of advises from him. What a person.
Since then we have been following his journey.
Very sad, his positions are no longer traced since May 25, 2023. A small team that spotted him said that when they passed him, he showed signs of life but was also showing signs of frostbite and high-altitude brain edema.
Rescue operation attempts were made without success. Hopes for his safe return are fading.
