Hi, everyone. Nice to meet you all,

I'm seeking for information about living expenses in Yogyakarta. Is 4 million/ month too expensive for renting a studio room in Yogyakarta? It is located in the city and close to various public places.

Really have no idea. Any opinions? Thank you

I don't know the typical costs in Yogyakarta but my rental house in Sentul City, a distant suburb of Jakarta costs approximately USD $650 (IDR 9.2 million) a month, utilities not included. This is a furnished 3 BR villa rented on a yearly contract. If the studio room you mention is on a monthly basis, fully furnished, and within walking distance to places you need to go, than it might be worth it for you. But keep in mind that rents are typically negotiable 10-20%.

It's a bit on the high end. For 3.2-3.7 million per month you'd have a studio or kos(t, which has added advantages) in a prime location in Yogya.

Well, if you like to drink alcohol you'll save on living expenses because it can be very hard to find there...

If you live to drink then move to Las Vegas. If you drink to live then you can be happy everywhere.

Thank you, Yoda. Please, no more wise tips for some while as it will take me some time to grasp your full meaning. But at least I am not in Jakarta but Bali so I can get completely sloshed any time the confusion blocks out the dark side... or is it the light side?

Hmmm, not sure you meant the quote to come out that way, ie, 'drink to live' - sounds like dependency :ROFLMAO:... Anyway I get your point but finding a beer in a shop other than a mall based supermarket was well nigh impossible when I stayed there a few years back. And forget about buying a bottle of wine to enjoy with your dinner. Hope things have changed.

I think your getting the Millenium Falcon confused with the Enterprise. :ROFLMAO:

I would avoid living close to the city if what you meant by city is Malioboro and surrounding. Yogya is not that big nor complicated to be explored like Jakarta. You want to find places on the north side like Sleman/Jl Kaliurang closer to KM5 or Gejayan up to North Ring Road or anywhere close to expensive private universities, most rich parents will not send their kids to Yogya to live in cheap kost2-an. But 4jt/month in yogya for a studio is way too pricey.
