Hi All,

I’m moving to Jakarta for employment and currently awaiting my Kitas approval (understand from my employer it can take 2-3 months). My company is currently processing the same, however, while they have given me a budget for relocation, I am required to procure the logistics on my own.

I am currently based out of Singapore (expat), and while not a lot, have few household goods (minor furniture like table/ office chair, kitchen appliances and utensils etc) which I want to bring along when I move to Jakarta. I had a couple of questions:

1) What is the legal requirements to minimize customs on these goods? Do I need to have an active Kitas, which basically requires me to travel to Indonesia first and convert my Vitas to Kitas? Or can I do it before I get my Kitas activated?

2) Any other things I need to be aware of?

3) Anyone can guide to a logistics provider / packers and movers who has experience in the same?

Thx.

Personally, anything I couldn’t fit in my luggage, I’d probably sell, and just rebuy. Sometimes customs can be a very slow process, and waiting weeks or months might not be much fun.

There is a thread about this topic ...

I dealt with Asian Tigers last year for a difficult shipment (death of a friend) and they were amazing. I know the family were satisfied (I only dealt with them for packing up all the personal belongings but met with and had regular contact with the GM who was great). If I ever do a relocation myself I will certainly check them out first. They can answer your questions.
Any of my friends who have shipped items in have had to wait until the get their KITAS (and there is a deadline once you get it). I never shipped anything personally as it seemed like too much hassle.

You need to have an active work permit and ITAS to do the import with minimum import fees.

according to permen no. 28/PMK05/2008
Import duty exemption as intended in Article 2 paragraph (1) is given to:
Foreign nationals who because of their work move into the Indonesian customs area with their families after receiving:
1) temporary residence permit from the Directorate General of Immigration as evidenced by a Temporary Residence Permit Card for a minimum of 1 (one) year; And
2) temporary work permit from the department in charge of labor as evidenced by a Temporary Foreign Worker Work Permit Card for a minimum of 1 (one) year.
