I guess that you are WNI? I am sorry to hear you are in a difficult situation.

It will be very difficult, perhaps impossible, for your husband to find formal employment as a foreigner with only high school education. To gain formal employment for a foreigner the employer company must get special and expensive permission to hire a foreign expert, which typically requires a degree and years of work experience in that field.

However, many WNA spouses do work informally, especially in small businesses owned by their WNI spouse. That is a very large and complicated subject that you should research further.

clearly she is not a native English speaker, and points out that her husband is, but she got her genders correct throughout for a heterosexual marriage.

are you just bad at reading? or just a jerk? Lol

Just a jerk. Come on. You still have to ask after all these years?

You know my sense of humour. Or lack of

I've never heard of an Indonesian changing their name after marriage. Imagine all the bureaucratic hurdles that would cause.

It can be done, but they tend to get denied. However afterwards, you are offered/guarenteed to be approved for a fee.

Sorry for the off-topic but might be interesting for someone.

Re: Name change
I confirm first hand: it can be done without a lawyer. The process goes via court proceeding/hearings, and you need a reference letter from OJK that you have no debt that you are trying to avoid with a name change. It was not too difficult (Bogor), just need to be willing to do some trips to government offices etc. for the admin and paperwork. The hardest/longest part was probably to get the new data "upload" done properly for the synchonization among the different government institutions. Until they can find the new name in their version of the database they cannot process the new documents.
There was only minimal cost involved, all legal no bribes.

If you have bad luck with the judge, or different area or time, it can be of course different.

Obviously it helps to be prepared with a good reason why you want the name change as you need to convince the judge. For WNI-WNA couple there are many good reasons to argue with.

Just convert to Islam
It's free
Package includes 1 free name change

Informal work such as a resto / cafe/ guesthouse type business is common practice for those in your position. Although difficult, it is far from impossible and I have seen many couples in Bandung, Jakarta and Lombok (to a certain extend) make it work. Good luck.
