FWIW, I have not given a single member of my wife's family any money (beyond like tiny gifts for nephews and what not), they have never lived with us, and have never asked me for any financial support.

But then my wife's family is on equal economic footing to me. The situation could be different if I entered into an economically asymmetric marriage.
