KITAP first renewal question

Yes Davita.. a sobering thought indeed.

For those retiring in Indonesia there are real issues to be faced. The idea of dying in Indonesia i think fills most with dread. When the Grim Reaper comes a calling, where do you want to be.?

For retirees in Indonesia I wonder if this is something they've given much thought to?
Honestly, I'd rather die in Indonesia. Less muss, fuss and cost. The whole spend 10k USD on a funeral seems obscene to me.

Think about it, down in a day, a high speed run, all done and dusted in no time

Yep, you can go through all the intersections fast with yellow flagged escorts and that without coughing up fifty bucks yourself.

Maybe I understood it incorrectly, I always thought that a foreigner (when he/she dies) must be transported back to the foreigner's country? If this is in correct, then scattering the ashes or even Indonesian burial is possible?

I'm relatively healthy (except for the cholesterol part, but that's not my fault, blame Dudung Roxy, Abang-abang martabak manis and Rumah Makan Padang..), but better be prepared than sorry!

expensive..who would pay for that.?

Also , be aware that there is NO free permanent residency for the future either. Every 5 years you will have to report to keep alive your KITAP. THIS is free BUT you will have to be accompanied by your sponsor (or at least get a letter from him) and again, you shouldn't expect that your agent will let you get that without forking a wad of cash. Also, you will have to maintain a MERP, theoretically valid at all time, and here again you will need your sponsor.

Atlantis, I was thinking about this (and I remember vaguely asking about it at the other forum but forget what the answer was). My KITAP sponsor is my dad, a relatively healthy person, but knock on wood if anything happens within the next three years (if he passed away), that means I have to switch sponsor for my renewal? (my mother, who is unfortunately has a pretty bad early case of dementia).

Both are legally possible, Banana72.

I've asked my wife to cremate me and then scatter the ashes in the sea afterwards but she's not too keen on the idea of cremation as it would be haram and also I'm not dead yet.

So it seems I will be buried in Indonesia if I die in Indonesia although I'd quite happily be thrown to the fish.

All the talk of death reminds me of a Spike Milligan quote - All men are cremated equal

I'm guessing Milligan has never been to Bali...
Here your status in life IS reflected in the cremation ceremony. The higher your cremation pile the more important (or wealthy) you have been in the community.

Junk wood and garbage from a building site near me is growing daily and I'm wondering if my wife has contracted for that to be left...:rip:....for me.

When Spike Milligan was preparing for the end he had a line that he wanted put on his headstone but it offended the sensibilities of the Chichester Diocese. So it was eventually written on the headstone in Gaelic. "Duirt me leat go raibh me breoite", ...... meaning, "I told you I was ill"

Atlantis, i thought when you renew KITAP, they'd give you a lifetime Permanent Residency, no?
I really hope they'd approve this dual-citizenship thing.

Hi Exile,
It is not a life time Permanent Residency per se, Exile. It's a permanent residency without set limit but with the obligation to report every 5 years to keep it valid. Also there are other conditions to keep it alive, such has not being away from Indonesia for more than 365 consecutive days for example.

Also, as I noted in my previous post, MERP should theoretically be applied and paid for every two years.

So it's ''semi'' permanent residency actually.?

and since it also requires the involvement of a sponsor and lots of money, it feels a lot less ''permanent'' than it used to.

Citizenship seems to be the only way to achieve real permanency, or are there catches to that as well.?

Having to learn the national anthem.

But seriously; there are other ways to lose a KITAP. We already mentioned the more than 1 year abroad situation but there are also some criminal circumstances etc. So then citizenship would be the way to go yes. But no way I would want to jump through all these hoops to visit the EU or the USA. And that's only one facet.

oh ok. Thanks, Atlantis

Thank you for your answer Atlantis anyway the first KITAP cost me 29.00.000
Do you happen to know, more or less just to have a idea, how much an agent usually charge for the second KITAP
So it would be 10.000.000 plus 1.750.000 , 55.000 and plus the agent fee if had to be done now, of course it will be more when i need to do it

Thanks you

I spoke to an agent last night regarding my KITAP renewal, normally I would do it myself, but as I want to fly into Jakarta and have it finished in less than two weeks I checked with an agent. His first quote was for 20,000,000 which included the 10,000,000 payment for renewal and the 1,750,000 2 year MERP. I negotiated him down on his fee, but I'm still willing to pay him more than I normally would if he can get it done in less than two weeks as the extra cost is worth it to me because of my time constraints. I still have 6 months before mine expires, but I'm having him do some "pre-work" now to make sure he has everything in order for a quick turnaround. He told me the normal process in Jakarta would be 3 to 4 weeks. I think if you didn't need him to rush you could get his fee down to a few million. I questioned him at length regarding the process, without telling him I already knew the process and the cost, and he was very knowledgeable in regard to the process and correct with the fees.

If one could negotiate down to 15 mill (like you said, if time is not an issue..3-4 weeks) when it's all said and done, it's not 'too bad' assuming you'll get a full package (KITAP, MERP and the KTP OA). I paid around 7jt for just my KITAP and it took me about four months. Been there done that, but might not wanna do it all over again.
