Greetings. My spousal KITAP is due in Feb 2024, plenty of time remaining but have been checking with agents about renewal costs. Looks like an average of Rp 32 jt. Pretty darned expensive. How much hassle would it be to sort it out myself, together with my wife's help? Does one still need to travel to Jakarta and Serang for this? Cheers,

You have to extend it where you have your first one done except if your wife has moved her KTP address.
Getting it done yourself is easy. At least for me. Everything was straightforward and it cost us 12mill instead of 32 as quoted. The second kitap extension will grant you the lifetime one if you're on spousal-sponsored one.

You can absolutely do it yourself and save a lot of money. Many threads on that over here.

Btw, I think the first ITAP extension can already generate the lifelong version.

Right, looking into that. But does the process still include all the travel from the local immigration office to the main office in Jakarta. Then over to Serang office and back?

For me not at all. It just included three visits in total to the own kantor Imigrasi. (They did not require e letter of impediment from the embassy but a statement RT/RW/Kelurahan about the marital status.) And of course a visit to CatSip.

When I renewed the documents for Jakarta to sign were sent electronically. They signed and that came back electronically. No Jakarta visit.

ooks like an average of Rp 32 jt
About 20% above that in Jakarta for the agent I used for my Kitas-Kitap conversion very recently. Maybe a Jakarta-Tangerang price discrepancy.

It is pricey but the only thing that's keeping me from wanting to do my immigration processes is running into an official at the Kanim with their own interpretation of the rules and putting off things because you don't know any better. Or even worse, running into two different officials at the Kanim with contradictory interpretation of the rules and you getting closer to your current izin tinggal's expiration date without any idea which is the correct information. I daresay people who have been able to do their own immigration processes have been lucky enough to run into people at the Kanim who are cooperative.

Thanks for all the replies. My wife will be renewing our daughter's passport soon so will ask the officials at the immigration office then. The reason I asked here is that I want to see if there are any "surprises" to watch out for. Sort of like what SamR mentioned.

Cheers,

Do keep us posted. I am curious what problems emerge, if they do, for someone wanting to do a Kitap extension without an agent. The problems I have encountered and a few others on the forum, seem to emerge when they are about to do a Kitas to Kitap conversion.

Kitas to Kitap was another load of documents and the usual visits to kantor immigrasi but nothing exceptional and we did not use an agent. My WNI basically did all the work. Same with Kitap to "permanent" Kitap except that there is now a pamphlet provided which lists all the necessary documents.

Ok, but still a few months to go before I start.
