Just asked an agent who did my MERP about switching my sponsor for my existing KITAP....got a really unpleasant surprise....was told that switching sponsor means i have to start all over again from a new KITAS? I had asked another agent and she said no problem...switching sponsor is simple. Too bad she responds to whatsapp very intermittently so I'm hesitant in using her...but this other agent's answer is making me nervous (and I can already imagine the cost...)

Anybody had any sponsorship changes before?

New sponsor means start again

That's how it is for work kitas imta etc.
Have to have the same sponsor / company

If you change or move, the clock gets reset

Theoretically there should be no problem but I think this is one of the areas most prone for interpretation and personal opinions, esp. if there’s a divorce or ex-WNI involved.

We’ve seen cases where a new sponsor was refused because the lack of sufficient funds (>100 or even 200 Juta) on the bank account of the guarantor or in case of a missing bloodline or …..

It will be from ex-wni to sponsored by WNI wife...The slow response lady so far hasn't mentioned me any prices (when we do get to exchange whatsapp messages) but dang...the slowness in answering my whatsapp/calls (not picking up at all) making me wanna just try finding another alternative.

Anybody have a good recommendation for (honest??) affordable/reasonable agent..I'm all ears.

Considering that is a different kind/code of KITAS/KITAP, I think the law and practice are clear that you will have to start over (spouse ITAS first).

If you're moving from the ex-WNI track to the spouse track then yes I think you would have to start from the beginning again. There would be costs involved for the KITAS, and then for the KITAP after a year or two depending when you got married, and then for the 2nd KITAP after 5 years. It is definitely pointless to use an agent for the spouse KITAP, but some people do so.

If that agent is really confident that she will pull it off, I would keep her and try to have her do it with a small DP or a ‘no cure no pay’ arrangement. (The bad reply means successful business! 😉) If it failed and (sh)it hits the fan so you need to start all over again, I would definitely do everything myself. It’s not complicated at all.

I just remember now (vaguely), I have actually done the 'sponsorship transfer' (I think it was by myself)...according to the immigration officer, I had to switch temporarily from a TKA based KITAP, then new KITAS (new sponsor), then within three weeks, it was already converted into my new (ex wni) KITAP. As far as length of stay, it was still counted and not starting over from zero, as when I extended my KITAP the first time (in 2020) I received the unlimited one..

"Worst scenario" that's probably what might happen....

When I checked my Immigration’s website, I saw that your case -obviously- is the one that is not mentioned.

The weird thing is that ‘you’ and your situation are described as ANAK BERKEWARGANEGARAAN ASING YANG MENGGABUNGKAN DIRI DENGAN ORANG TUA WNI (Pasal 50 ayat (2) / (FOREIGN CITIZENS WHO JOIN THEMSELVES WITH PARENTS OF Indonesian Citizens (Article 50 verse (2).

And they do mention what is needed in case of change of sponsorship after a divorce.

So that seems a bit like the worst case scenario.

Update: So, yes piggybacking on jstar's post (and my own experience), an acquaintance/agent who is helping me with the sponsor transfer and MERP, just asked me to provide the real docs for her to proceed with the sponsor change (ktp, passport, etc) and she did say she will be sending me the request letters, immigration form (probably the 27 mentioned in jstar's post) and no mention of the need to change to a new KITAP etc. without the divorce letter of course.

She also mentioned something about MERP (possibly for KITAP holders?) is only available as 2 year only..no more 1 year MERP. A bit more money but as long as I can still use it, I guess I'm fine with it.

MERP is not compulsory. So if you have no travel plans you don't need to get it until you have a definite date in mind. However, most important to have it if you travel as without it your Kitap is cancelled when you leave and you have to start the whole process all over again.

Yes I'm aware of it being non-compulsory. I haven't tried applying for MERP on a moment's notice so I don't know how fast it'll be (with an agent I'd imagine it no longer than a week). I just prefer to be on 'stand by' all the time since case in point...the she-who-is-always-right casually mentioned to me that she wanted me to go to Penang for a check up...'possibly' in August. I'd say ok...sure, but make sure I'll get my stuff sorted out first ya? (MERP)...as usual, selective hearing was probably happening....as a couple days ago, she-boss just told me 'oh yeah since you said it was ok, i went ahead and booked us the plane tickets for August'......

I can only sighed and said softly "no....now we hope the MERP will be done in time" (which I'm sure it will).

Update: So when if it's too good to be true it is...sent all my stuff (pdf/jpeg) to the lady. Should've listened to my gut when I thought her response was spotty. Anyway...told me all my stuff was already good to go (she verified with the immigration...according to her). Told me she was gonna pick up the real docs after I got all the extra docs lined up (surat kuasa, letter from original sponsor, letter from new sponsor etc). She sent me typed up word doc for me to print. Promised me in the morning (I was waiting). Sent to me at 10:30 at night. My dad's name was wrong, my birth date was wrong (and I was already too eager and printing without checking to catch up with time as she said she was gonna pick it up in a couple days) and the immigration required a handwritten letter too. Did all that.

That was on June 13th. Never picked up the doc. I asked whats up she said 'sorry took a day off to go to my son's graduation'. I'm like no problem. She answered I'll pick up or send somebody to pick up tomorrow...hope to give you good news on the 18th (as i think 17th was idul adha). Found out later on the 16th the hacking fiasco started. I called her and sent numerous message from the 20th till July 1st. Never read the message or answered my call.

Asked my wife to message and call her...and she responded. (at the same time she read all my previous messages....10 days later) ..sorry due to hacking at the immigration we decided to put things on hold, we're afraid if we proceed the data might be unsafe. Please wait until tomorrow as i'm waiting for a phone call from the immigration'. Yep...no update from that either.

Left her a voice recording telling her I've been wondering why no response or returned phone calls whatsoever? Only the first messages turned 'blue' (on whatsapp) and I assumed she also heard my voice recording (polite, but told her I'm just canceling the deal with her if she doesn't respond to my messages). That also was not replied.

So yeah lesson learned: No picking 'agents' because they have a facebook page (that shows a small office with two desks). I thought she was legit last time I spoke to her even met for coffee (right after the pandemic ended).

But met a second agent yesterday...(this time from a fellow ex-wni so it's better from the start). Went to the guy's office. Seems legit. Active IG and busy office. Talked to his assistant who just got back from the immigration saying that for unlimited (exwni) kitap, sponsorship change is no problem...no prices yet we'll see.

Difficulty to assess what’s going on. You never know; perhaps the Imigrasi staff did ask her to postpone with the system issues.
