An email message was sent last night by Indosat GIG to it's customers to inform them that their internet service will cease on the 25th this month.

The reason given was a court decision related to a corruption case but the exact circumstances are unclear.

My first reaction was that it was all a hoax, given the way the announcement was made and the way the email was written.

We shall see, but what are the best alternatives in Jakarta for an Internet ONLY service with no add-ons.?? Speed and reliability the main considerations.

Not sure what IndoSat GIG is but I picked up an IndoSat Sim card for internet only Oct 29. Paid for the package and they insisted on Rp50,000 deposit to be returned if I ever stop the service.

Activated it after CS girl told me she already did that. Worked for an hour and then nothing for 2 days. Contacted CS through the app, no reply. Did start to work day 3. While the CS assured me that I would be happy with the speed, I guess she must be used to crap speed. I mean, it was slower than Smartfren which totally sucks for speed here. Speed test, Smartfren 7 to 8 kb sec. Indosat, 5 to 6. Local CS wrote her number on my receipt. When called for 2 days, no answer. No number listed for their office. Internet stopped completely. In the past 3 weeks I have had 4 days of internet from IndoSat. Going Monday to tell them I want my deposit back and see what kind of excuses I get telling me why that's not possible. Telkomsel runs at 2 mgs so I will just stick with them even though I have to pass the sim back and forth between phone and router to use their app.

So I do not know if this GIG and what I have is related. If it is then they basically ended service and robbed customers of their cash.

I find myrepublic to be pretty good but they have lousy customer service now as they tried to automate it through telegram app. Connection is ok though and pretty reliable.

I am guessing that your bad experience was with Indosat IM3. (recently hitched up with Tri is seems).

The same parent company but a different division is Indosat IM2 GIG which is the cable internet service which is shutting down on the 25th. (IM3 is unaffected apparently).

They made the announcement Friday night - termination of service 6 days later. It leaves their customers with only 4 working days to find an alternative provider.

Yes, IM3 and it sucks terribly. At least here in Lampung just like other providers do.

Unfortunately, My Republic are not available round our way.

We have a choice between Biznet, First Media, CBN and Indihome.

I live in Jakarta and have recently canceled First Media because the internet was unreliable and very expensive. I have switched to Biznet. So far, so good. Very fast internet, good IPTV, no outages so far and 40% cheaper than First Media
