Can I get medical insurance to be used for private hospitals in Indonesia whilst staying here on a tourist visa? If so, who are the insurers that cover this? Or must this be done before you enter Indonesia? Ideally, I would like to pay a monthly/yearly premium and be covered whilst I am already a tourist in Indonesia. Does is matter what your country of citizenship or residence is?

Thank you

There are companies that offer travel insurance, but often only cover you for 30-60 days in one country.

You will have to get it before you enter

Just any travel insurance is ok. Get an annual one for a few hundred dollars that excludes usa and canada
Try some online travel agents
Expedia agoda last-minute.com
Bupa
Etc

Worldnomads.com

35yo UK resident coming to Indonesia. £200 a year Inc covid

Before traveling, one can get a travel insurance incl. medical costs. But .. in most cases one has to claim the medical expenses, meaning one has to pay the medical cost out of your own pocket first.

But as stated by Jaime, often these multi-trip (medical) travel insurances have a maximum stay per trip (as 30 days or so). And many require a basic health insurance in the own country.

Thanks guys, I was hoping for some product which can be bought after you leave your country of residence. Not so much travel insurance but primarily medical insurance which is valid abroad, without requiring you to specify a departure and return date. Will check out the nomad website too

Then you enter Allianz or Prudential territory. Is possible of course. The type of visa and where you reside is not so relevant. There should be quite some threads here on health insurance. (For the cheapest formulas exclude the USA and make sure you’re not gonna be pregnant.)

Yes, but as far as I know you need a KITAS to apply for Allianz or Prudential, not a tourist visa.

Could be @Samoerai, I don’t know the small print of a PruMed or so. Many years ago I was insured with ACS and then later with William Russell and they didn’t even know the difference between visa and residence permit. A nephew as agent arranged it only requesting my passport. But that can have changed of course. :noidea:

I recently applied for health care insurance both at Allianz and Prudential. Both asked my Kitas. Also medical test. But Prudential has a promo now .. no medical test required

Yes you must be resident legally in the country e.g. here need kitas for allianz

Why can't you just get health insurance from your home country before you travel

It sounds almost as if you are planning to get sick deliberately or something for a claim? Or a free transplant. Lol

What you ask doesn't really make sense

Whatever happened with that requirement to have a $25K health insurance before entering RI. (A bit similar to the Schengen visa.) Was it abolished?

See here for instance:

You will need what is the so called the "Travel Insurance for Nomads" . Just google it you will find quite a few of them. But typically they are non reputable insurers, not the major reputable, insurers.
Example:
https://www.worldnomads.com/uk/travel-insurance (as pointed out by snpark above)
Others:

But just be aware if you want to go to this route to do your meticulous DD (Due Diligences). You will only know how good the travel insurance is if you need to make a claim.

Yes usually you pay and have to claim back
Some good ones the professional ones direct billing to hospital

Usually the insurance will ask for your passport number and KITAS/KITAP, plus some questions on your financial and medical condition.
I'm an insurance agent in case you're wondering
