Ok I'm confused frist it states the rent is 1400 us dollars per month ... later it states rent charge 1900 us dollars per month. Both numbers seem crazy but which is it ?

Doesn't matter - they're both illegal under Indonesian law as only Rupiah transactions are allowed.

1400 x 14200
20 mill a month

I realize it is the custom, but the rent asked is not per month, its per year. Meaning $1,400 X 12 = $16,800 or Rp.233,520,000 using the current Panin Bank rate of Rp.13,900:$1. Its possible, given the current volatility of the Indonesian economy, that the unit will be on the market for quite some time.

the rent charge is USD 1400

So why do you advertise an illegal transaction if you don't intend to carry it out?
One tends to assume you're looking for an idiot bule, fresh off the boat without a clue.

because it sounds less than saying 20 million rupiah

per month

Yes, indeed
I don't know if it is illegal to quote the price in USD but obviously of course it must be paid in IDR

Maybe just easier for int'l expats to be quoted in USD since 95% of the world can understand how much that is?
Especially for new arrivals who are looking to move to new digs and need to negotiate with employers etc

Don't forget also some of these owners actually expect 12 months in advance AND 1 or 2 months deposit too

Some villas ask for 2 years in advance - on a rent of $4-5,000 a month! As if I will hand over $120,000 cash in advance to someone here to rent their villa!
