I'm trying to find an arts group to join in Jawa Barat...can any of you pass along contact info?

I'm just starting to call art supply shops and galleries to inquire.

If/when I find more info. I'll post here.

makasih 🙏

This is a group of students and academia doing art and art design from a well known university in west Java and Indonesia.

Today is May 7th, exactly 6 months from my original post regarding Fine Arts groups/orgs in Jawa Barat.

I'd like to report back on the responses sent/given to me from the various museums, galleries, art teachers and schools in Indonesia that I contacted via email (using both Bahasa Indo & English language) and/or phone messages.

Number of responses: ZERO

🗑️🤡

Sorry about that. I do recall in the past couple weeks some kind of art festival or something shown on TVRI news. Unfortunately I can not give you the details but if there are art festivals in various places, there must be some groups involved somehow. I would think the Universities would have information on groups or at least any festivals. The news media here really sucks by not announcing up coming events and only informing people after they take place. I know Bali has a larger art interest and if you could find one person involved, they may be able to lead you to others in different places.

I offered myself to the University art department as a live model but was rejected due to not having canvas big enough or enough paint in the entire class. Painters don't have wide angle lenses.

You sould have asked for noodle shops. You would be buried with replies.

Minister outlines four strategic steps to boost creative economy
Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has suggested four strategic measures that regional governments can implement to strengthen the creative economy potential of their regions.

He asked regional governments to explore the creative economy potential of their respective regions because the large potential of the creative economy can offer benefits to the regions and boost their income, increase jobs, and promote their name.

well, only a few decades behind the rest of the world, but it's good to hear.

Explore creative economy potential

In a statement issued here the same day, he noted that Indonesia has vast potential in the creative economy, but only a few parties have tapped it so far.

 untapped potential? really? Isn't it normal for an entire region with millions of people to lack even one art gallery or arts organization?
:LOL::ROFLMAO:;)

If someone can convince the Ulema councils and the local shock troops that maybe, JUST MAYBE, encouraging the fine arts instead of building a mosque every 100 metres will serve Indonesia's youth very well in the future.

One can always dream...

Building art galeries exposing indecent statues or paintings instead of places of worship to find the right path ?

If your search for art galleries has taught us anything, fine arts is not a big part of Indonesian art and culture. Much of Indonesian art is woven into all types of utensils and furniture. Batik clothes, detailed wood carvings in furniture, silver crafts or things and ornaments made from baked clay or other natural materials.

Since there is very little demand or supply for fine arts, but a lot of demand for mosques, maybe things are just the way they are supposed to be here.

This is all not correct. Indonesian fine art is probably the best in SEA, and easilly reching highest prices. Demand is also high for top pieces.

Thank you for bringing this up! I spent almost twenty years, buying and selling fine art from Bali, and it was a wonderful experience. Learning about the materials, techniques, appreciating the talent. Supporting the Artist. Seeing the joy, that it brought to the people, that bought it from me, and knowing that this art, would be passed down generations to come and be enjoyed.
Someone said once, that showing imagery of people was somehow indecent, and wrong. Do they think the Creator made us to look this way to be indecent? This is a total fabrication by uneducated, controlling, religious zealots!
The human body is beautiful, and should be admired, along with all of Nature! 🙏

Who is to decide what is indecent? Also who is to decide what is the right path? That is an individual decision for everyone to make independently!

I was talking about your profile picture here on the forum.
Thank you. That is from my daughter's art work. She has a very unique style that seems have been influenced by lots of travel. She was introduced to many different styles.
