FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 Indonesia

Some cases that I know are from peer pressure.
Here are some cases reported by US departement of state.

Report on International Religious Freedom: Indonesia

International Religious Freedom Report for 2021

On February 3, the Ministers of Education and Culture, Home Affairs, and Religious Affairs issued a joint ministerial decree on the use of uniforms in schools, prohibiting most state-run schools from compelling female students to wear hijabs. The decree came after two non-Muslim students in West Sumatra refused to wear school-mandated hijabs. Parents of one of the students filmed their meeting with school officials who stated the student had to wear a hijab and posted the video on social media, prompting the national news media to report on the story. The school principal subsequently apologized, acknowledging that 23 non-Muslim students in the school had been required to wear the hijab. The decree ordered local governments and school principals to abandon regulations requiring the hijab but did not prohibit Muslim female students and teachers from choosing to wear the hijab at school.

In February, press reported that the National Commission on Violence Against Women identified 32 provinces and regencies in the country that required girls and women to wear hijabs in public schools, government buildings, and other public spaces. In some cases, young women had their hair cut, were expelled from schools, were penalized, or were fired from their jobs. In February, a Human Rights Watch researcher told the press that schools in more than 20 provinces made religious attire mandatory in their dress code.

On May 3, the Supreme Court annulled the joint ministerial decree on hijabs, declaring that the decree violated four laws, including the National Education System Law and Child Protection Law, and said that children under 18 had no right to choose their own clothes. Religious Affairs Minister Qoumas said he was disappointed with the ruling and would consult with his cabinet colleagues on what to do next.

In March, Human Rights Watch released a report on dress codes for women and girls, finding that “over the past two decades, women and girls in the country had faced unprecedented legal and social demands to wear clothing deemed Islamic as part of broader efforts to impose the rules of sharia in many parts of the country.” The report found that women and girls across the country were subject to local regulations, social pressure, bullying, and harassment to compel them to wear hijabs at schools, government offices, and in public spaces, causing psychological distress and violating their freedom of religion.

On that note go past any local school now and you will see 95%+ girls wearing hijab. Since the number is significantly lower for their parents, i believe that social pressure on that level (from students and teachers) is a major factor in this and the future for Indonesia is unfortunately the hijab.

How is this still one thread btw? Seems at least 3 discussions going on.

On a lighter note, why are so many people still voluntarily wearing masks when it isn't compulsory, even outside. Especially kids. I wonder if there is some similar psychology at play. Will it take several more years before the psychological effects of lockdown clear, or is this a permanent change in society as happened with jilbabs?

I think the facemasks is still done out of fear/being overcautious/maybe being told to. I think the only places I have worn a mask in the last 6 months is one a plane, train, and at church. Everywhere else, no one seems to care.

As of today, additional battalions of border police are deployed in city centers. Units are already patrolling the areas which have a mixed population of Jews and Arabs.

There were rockets fired at Israel from the Palestinian Gaza Strip and Lebanon, leading to Israeli bombings in retaliation. These attacks were obviously a Palestinian response to Israeli raids on the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. And then the Tel Aviv assault on Friday night of course.

Seven tourists from Italy and Great Britain were injured in the assault with a car in Tel Aviv. The Palestinian Hamas, which controls Gaza, said the attack was a "natural and legitimate response to Israel's aggression at the al-Aqsa mosque”.

This is all taking place at a very convenient moment for certain groups.

Now certain people will point their fingers and claim they were 'right'.

On a side note, the Netflix show Fauda does an excellent job in showing and telling both sides of the conflict as opposed to what the media does.

In my opinion this has only partly something to do with hygiene or pollution. I could also ask if people have ever been to Indonesia before COVID. Some are just over cautious and people got used to it after 3 years of this stuff. Especially the middle - upper classes were partly really scared to death and some still are. Where I live, I still see some people jogging with masks (while being the only ones doing that in this housing complex, with no traffic and no other people beside them), which is probably very healthy.

In school the masks are not mandatory anymore, some people and children still use them. I told my daughter to put it off as soon as it wasn't mandatory anymore. A lot of kids weren't even really wearing them anyway and most teachers also didn't really bother anymore to force them.

So yeah the people, especially in Indonesia, who do it because of pollution and hygiene are probably the clear minority. Maybe due to the covid stuff they became one or two more, I won't deny it.

We still wear mask any time we leave our property. We know how the Indonesian government treated covid and how so many died but not reported, We also notice small media articles about covid increasing in this or that community.

We had also noticed that since wearing mask, we have had no colds or resperatory problems so that alone has hepled in our decission to continue to wear mask. Now, you read a lot about the most common resperatory and how fast it is spreading, TB.

This ruling was 2 years ago, so what happened since? Children under 18 still have no rights to choose their own clothes here in Indonesia? What the government did since? Anybody know?

Yeah, it’s always been like that though. Mainly Japanese and also Chinese wore one when having a cold or so. Over here there’s a huge difference in cities. In the DKI Jakarta the mask still is completely normal, even outside. (See the motorbike drivers.) Don’t forget many kompleks and buildings still require it, just like public transportation. But in other places it was already somewhat rare during Covid times. In Surabaya, Manado and esp. Bali; practically nobody. We got visitors from Solo and Medan for instance and had to remind them and even provide them with masks.

This thread is about FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 INDONESIA and the discussion extend to ANOC World Beach Game which will also be held in Bali, and what Indonesian government has been missing by not hosting those international events.

No recent news about this ANOC Wolrd Beach Games? Still on? Or off?

No news is good news? Maybe someone told the Bali governor to shut it?

Last I heard a day ago is he is still saying Israeli teams or players are not welcome but if they do participate no Israeli national anthem can be played or flag flown. Straight PDI-P stance led by Megawati/Puan under the watchful eyes of the grave of Sukarno.

Undecided, as it is still far away in August. It seems that the Youth and Sport Minister tries to throw the Ball into the Foreign Minister court.

Youth and Sport Minister : God willing, the World Beach Games will not fail, even though Israel has been rejected by the Governor of Bali.
Another recent news
Youth and Sport Minister, Promises to Find a Solution for Israel at the World Beach Games in Bali Highlighted by British Media.
"Dito promised to bridge the communication to find a solution regarding Israel's participation in the World Beach Games. He is also reported to have met with Koster to further discuss the issue of the World Beach Games, and hopes to find a solution in the next two weeks, Dito also added that the final decision rests with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

Take that back, the dancing puppet has again said he doesn't want anyone from Israel competing in Bali according to the Jakarta Post.

What happen if a group of terrorist tries to take hostage of Israeli athletes in Bali. This reminds me to one if the finest (if not the greatest) commando operation on earth.

This is not in video games, but this is real and it happened on 3 July 1976, when the technology has not developed like what we have seen today. This was where the Israeli commandos carried out a daring raid to free more than 100 hostages held by terrorists at Entebbe Airport in Uganda. But with suicide bomb getting involved I believe the special commando unit such as "Sayeret Matkal" will be useless.

The Densus 88 counter terrorism squad in Indonesia is very well trained.

But shoot first, ask questions later.
