ExpatIndo Twitter derail discussion

No I couldn't give a toss personally. I'm not even on Twitter. Just trying to understand what's happened. I know only the blue tick ones are relevant. Same as IG etc you can be verified

You can start a Twitter account with that name, and there is nothing I or anyone can do about it. This is why this whole brouhaha is even more hysterical than it is. Check out how many Twitter accounts "Elon Musk" has, or any other famous name.
In fact, there are other ExpatIndos...I have no idea who these are, but if they ever start tweeting anti-government stuff, we'd all be in trouble (no we won't).

I have pointed to something that can be an issue in a country where personal freedoms are in decline day by day. The tweeter feed is embedded in the forum, you can see it from the right side and has the expatindo.org logo. You have to put whatever you want on your personal account, but it is not fair to do it over our backs, as you are a connected party here.

With political posts, you can wake up a bear. If that happens, everything can come under scrutiny, including what we write here. Similar, but not the same analogy, was with a girl named Kristen Grey. A couple of stupid tweets put the Eye of Sauron on her.

@dafluff , I do not understand why do you answer in vain and defiance, saying that I am a bad person, while you are even not understanding that this could be an error. I think this is called "whatabaoutism". You even choose to threaten me in a way, misquoting me.

I do not claim, but the whole story could look like you are presenting yourself as a persona that is doing the right things but actually acting differently, always want to be right, and cannot bear any criticism. Considering compliance, you are right, these are your own problems. And considering your sense of humor, you have to work more on it.

As I already stated, if you really were sincere in your concern, you would have brought it up in a constructive manner, instead of responding to a 3-month-old post to take a swipe at the content of the Twitter account, then further directing your sarcasm at the whole moderation team.

The content and the responsibility for the Twitter account are mines alone. If you really think that Indonesia is currently, or is shortly becoming a country where you are jeopardized because of the content of someone else's Twitter account, then I recommend you get a PCR test and take the first flight out of here, because that would be the rational thing to do.

I do not think there is anything else for me to add to this discussion, so I'm going to leave it here.

"If you don't like it, then leave" is a bit rude if you were talking about the forum, but in the context of someone's place of residence it is patently offensive.

I completely agree, and I said no such thing.

Nothing to add. Stonewalling and the above posts are self-explanatory.

So the expat Indo Twitter account is not an official one? Just one that someone operates pretending to be expat Indo?
Even with good intentions how is that allowed?
It is allowed because none of the co-owners of Expatindo disagree with it and all support it regardless of the fact that they may not always agree with the opinion expressed. Also, none of the owners feel threatened by what is posted on the twitter account Expatindo.
Though we listen our members' opinion, decisions on what is or should be posted under the name Expatindo is the sole privilege of the 5 co-owners of this forum.
Since it is not gonna change, if anyone feel threatened in any way by whatever is posted here or elsewhere under the name Expatindo I kindly suggest them to stop posting.

I don't think D's post is rude R Cameron, it is a sound advise.
Most of us, if not al, have decided to reside here and decision to leave belongs to us. The day l or any of my family member would feel threatened, the day I would feel my kids can't grow in Indonesia safely, the day I would feel I can't express myself freely, I would re-assess the reason I live here and probably would leave and I believe that any person with sense should do the same.
I would definitely not live in a country where I can't express my thoughts and opinions freely. Fortunately I don't think a minute that we are anywhere close to this in Indonesia.

Sure, there is no secret.

5 of us have contributed financially to start and maintain this forum: They are Dafluff, El Goretto, John Madden, Puspawarna and me.

The 6th one in the team featured in "About us", Ponyexpress to name him, was an active moderator in the old forum and was, along with John madden the first moderator that I added when I gave up moderating alone.

As you perhaps know the creation of Expatindo wasn't planned but rather forced. Things have been done in a week or perhaps even less, without really having time to think of the future and of who would do what in the team.

Out of respect for the good job done in the old junk we included him (Ponyexpress) in the list of mods when we moved to Expatindo, However he never expressed an interest to participate in the creation of Expatindo or to help moderate it.

All decisions are taken collectively for any topic, not only moderation. Our "internal rules" state that a least 3 moderators should be in agreement for any decision being taken, and as far as I remember I can't remember 1 decision, on any topic, which was not ultimately approved by the five of us after discussion or mitigation whenever necessary.

The use of a twitter account named Expatindo was discussed and approved and if any of the content posted would displease 1 or several of the "owners" of Expatindo, this would be discussed and I am absolutely confident that the tweet would be removed if deemed offensive.

Now, you would excuse me to leave the thread, I need to fill some forms to renew my Moderator work permit to be able to post here and elsewhere. :D

You will also note that Atlantis was careful to use the term "contributed" and not "invested".

Running the forum, while not prohibitively expensive, is not free. So we had to chip in to purchase various licenses, hosting, etc.

After a while, we decided to include ads to maintain the operation costs.

So make no mistake, we do not derive any profit (very far from it) to this endeavor which is nothing more than a hobby for all of us. It's not a charity, it's not a business, it's just for fun.
