Deletion of negative ratings

Just noticed that all negative ratings have disappeared from member's profiles on the activity page. I previously suggested we not have any negative ratings as I felt it caused disruption and abuse. Therefore, imo....it's a good start and I hope a permanent revision.

Yes, we're going to scrap negative ratings altogether. I'm currently on holiday so I don't have time nor the will to properly delve into it but I've already started removing their display as that is very easy.

The negativity around here is starting to get too much for our taste, so that's a first step: removing the toys.

In the mean time, those that have an axe to grind can do so in The Cage. Bickering and name calling has no place anywhere else on the board.

I'm still not entirely sure why we need ratings at all. I guess it's just what the kids are doing these days. I think most new users are able to establish quite quickly for themselves who on the board offers reliable advice.

It's a nice incentive and a different way to show one's appreciation when one doesn't have the time to post a reply.

It's also a nice alternative to well meaning but otherwise cluttering one liners such as "Good on you", "Yep" or "I agree".

I agree that positive ratings do have an influence on the quality of postings. If someone takes the time to create an informative post then a simple click to appreciate that post has influence....even if a comment isn't justified.
Negative rating does the opposite...it deters some members from contributing to a thread because they are scared they may be the subject of abuse...as we have recently witnessed.

As you've been away there has been some consternation on the forum you need to be updated about.

Rumour has it, and I cannot verify, that vocalneal was getting so many bad ratings...probably due to his jokes...that the mods, in their wisdom, decided to cancel negative ratings altogether.

It was only fair as poor vocalneal was being so negatively rated because he tells terrible jokes?...inmho....they weren't all bad....

Now...please don't quote me as I don't have actual knowledge that this happened...but it's plausible...

Lol I wouldn't be surprised. For the record, I never gave vocalneal any negative ratings, but I received one when I didn't find his racism funny.

Dissecting that comment a bit more, I'd very surprised, and will apologise to El if so, if the numbers show that allegation to be true.

I think he's implying that Pimpin and I were indulging in a kind if online frottage and lile each others posts too much.

Im guessing 2 or 3 each. Period. But id you compare I think i have liked Vical Neil's bad joke 7 or 8 times, Nimbus comments mayne 5 times, DanInAceh 3 times, etc.

In other words the numbers dont hild up with the prood.
