Anyone know what is "Daun Kedi" in English? I'm told that it is a popular vegetable in Manado. Is it available in Jakarta's supermarkets? Thanks.

Ah yes, the hibiscus. But I think it is Daun Gedi. Never saw it in JKT supermarkets, perhaps sold on the markets?

As jstar noted it is daun gedi or as we say in Manado daong gedi. It s indeed one of these veggie used in many different ways in the manadonese cuisine, the most well known being perhaps in the famous tinutuan, associated with bayam merah, sambiki (pumpkin), kangkong (kangkung in BI) and rice.
no idea what it is called in English though.

It grows very easily. We have a bunch of trees that we harvest regularly.

I would be surprised that you don't find it in wet markets. Shelf life once harvested is too short though for supermarkets. Once cut it has to be consumed in the day.

I heard its consumption can prevent prostate cancer or problem .
