Cold cuts in Malang

If you’re not looking for a (much) cooler climate but want a place that’s easily accessible with nature close by, you could consider Medan and its surroundings. I would never ever consider Batam, unless you’re a huge golf freak, and want to make many Singapore trips.

And now for the bad news; the kids being allowed everything and screaming and jumping on the chairs in restaurants is not solely a Jakarta phenomenon.

I want (and I will) relocate to another part of Indonesia and I am in the process of orientation now.
Someone said I should look into Malang.
Yogyakarta is on my list too.
...
Malang is not the place anymore.
Batu gets crowded over years with amusement parks.
Yogyakarta is still on my list .. for re-location.
But, I am worried if I watch this video 😯😯😯😯 ... a lot of (new) amusement parks too.

Minimum wage is also one of the indicator for a rough guidance about the cost of living in that region.
DKI Jakarta 5,067,381 (US$325)
Special Region of Yogyakarta 2,125,897 (US$136)
So In general Jakarta is about 2.38x more expensive than living in Yogyakarta. A more accurate comparison is certainly not straight forward.

This is another discussion in Quora about the general view, pro and contra about of living in Yogyakarta, a good area to live in Yogyakarta

Also do not forget Yogyakarta is one of the few cities in Indonesia with an international airport and is also well-connected to other major cities by trains, coaches.

Additionally, it is worth noting that Yogyakarta is home to one of Indonesia's top state universities, along with several reputable private institutions. As a result, you are more likely to find skilled doctors and specialists in Yogyakarta hospitals, a more civilised society compared to those in Bali.

If the goal is to find a big city without congestion, a city with effective waste management and a reliable drainage system to prevent flooding, free from mosquito; I am not aware of any major cities in Indonesia that meet these criteria. The planning and management of these essential services has been wrong right from the beginning, making it very difficult to rectify the situation now without a major cost and disruption.

Huh? One of the few Indonesian cities with an International airport? Checking online there seem to be at least 16.

From what Google says, there are only direct non-stop flights from Singapore and Malaysia, from the new YIA airport. Pretty limited.

And how many airports, cities are there in Indonesia?
Adisucipto Airport in Yogyakarta is actually the sixth busiest airport in the country, so it is not a small airport like someone might think.

However ...

Someone said in his/her post in Quora:
However as the time goes by, Yogyakarta is getting more crowded than before. Traffic jams are now almost everywhere with very bad public transportation routes to tackle it. Crimes are getting higher recently, I heard many of my family’s colleagues got robbed and stabbed at night—even at evening right after the sun sets.

Surrounded by mountains and lush landscapes, Yogyakarta provides opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, exploring caves, and visiting beautiful beaches on the southern coast.

Watching those videos about amusement parks around the beaches ... first of all looks cheap .. and thinking about waste management ... where does the drainage system (of the toilets) go? Straight to the ocean? Is it because of that ... there is a warning (watch the videos): "dilarang mandi di laut?"

If that warning is because of sewage being drained directly into the sea, is a sad example of how stupid and selfish People are! Warning not to swim in the ocean? People have gotten so out of touch with this planet, it's amazing. If people want to have fun, then keep the Planet clean, and enjoy the rivers, waterfalls, beaches, they don't need amusement parks, sure they are fun, but at what cost to the planet? Before so much overpopulation, and pollution, people could swim in the lakes, rivers, and the sea. It seems we haven't learned how to keep the Earth healthy, while we progress with all our technology, and modernization. I wonder what this Planet will look like in 20,30,40, even 50 years into future? Will we have flying cars, no more money, equal rights, free health care, and education, for all? Or will we have finally destroyed all life with Nuclear wars?

There ain't no amusement park in the Missus' hamlet in Java, but there is a small stream coming through it. About 3 or 4 m wide.
It is used to bathe animals, to shit, to fish, to swim, to throw the garbage, to wash the laundry, etc...
The place is not overpopulated neither.
I suggest you go spend a few weeks over there, and teach them how to save the planet ?

You are always preaching to the readers of this forum about this or that. They already know. How about getting off your ass, open your door, and go preach to those who need to hear it. That should be your target audience.

Water is really attractive but many Indonesian can't swim. No swimming warning is placed mostly because waves in the southern part of Java are big and can drown you easily even if you are a strong swimmer. Mostly no lifeguard/s or lifeguard post either.

True, the majority can't swim but it doesn't seem to stop them from getting into a boat with no life vest and heading into open water. Every boating accident, and there are many in the waters around the nation, has lives lost due to passengers not having any life protecting equipment. Being able to swim would help until they tire or be rescued but a life vest would keep them alive a lot longer.

I think it says 'Dilarang mandi di laut' not 'berenang,'.
However, the question remains where does the 'air kotoran' go from those places, like amusement parks in those rocky surroundings near the coast (see videos)?

They say "mandi" but they actually mean "swim". As "mandi di sungai", the initial purpose is to go to the river to bath, but children/young people end up swimming/playing in the water. It's a term mistake that people has been using since long time ago and they never bother to correct it. I also believe that people won't really take a shower/bath with salty seawater, therefore no reason to forbid.

Theoritically, blackwater should be treated first through septic tank/s. I don't think they go directly to the sea. They should at least go detour to the sewerage or river first. Otherwise you see the masses floating nearby or stranded on the beach, right?

Don't be so sure about that. If there's a way to get around spending money on sewage, People will find it. Common sense is not to be assumed.
I've seen on tourist beaches in Thailand, how they put the bins to collect the rubbish from the tourist, and at night when the tourist are sleeping, they load all the rubbish on boats, then take it far out to sea, dump it, and start a brand new day. The tourist think, Ahh! such a beautiful paradise. In south India, once on Kovalam beach. I saw very early in the morning before the tourist wake up, they take the rubbish out to the edge of the beach and bury the rubbish in the sand. The tourist wake up and say Ahh! Such a beautiful beach. They miss the occasional straw sticking up.

Don't be so sure about that.
Yes, indeed ..
Air kotor goes directly to the rivers and then to the sea. Many reports on that.

Well... there are requirements to fulfill when someone/a company wants to build a structure. Technical drawing including mechanical/electrical, plumbing & waste management etc. For such amusement park there should be a preliminary environment study (AMDAL) too. But, considerering that not everybody in power holds good principal, of course someone can take a shortcut.

That's such a polite way of saying the nice individuals take bribes and cut corners!
