I need to change the address on my visa/kitas. The original address was whatever the visa agency used in Jakarta, we have now settled in jogja and have a home.

Is this easy to do myself or should I just get the original visa agency to do it at whatever cost it is?

I got my agent to do it when I moved (I moved from south jakarta to central jakarta so my immigration office changed but I only moved a few kilometers - so easy for my agent)- its important you update them asap as its your obligation to have the correct address on your KITAS. You'll need some proof of the address and it's straightforward enough I'm sure you could do it yourself. I doubt your old agent will want to do it because they need to go to your local immigration office in Jogja.

The old agent will do it. They will just charge 1.5 million for it.

ok so .. that was my original question .. is this easy to do myself? I guess the answer to that is 'yes'. So how do I do it? All I know so far is I need a letter from the kantor sipil to kick it off.

You need transfer paperwork from your old immigration to turn into your new immigration.

Title : How to Change Address Data in ITAS or ITAP and the Requirements - Last updated January 17, 2024 - free translation

... The first step for the foreigner's sponsor who wants to change an address in ITAS or ITAP is to carry out the outgoing transfer procedure at the Immigration Office in the old domicile area ...
The requirements that must be attached when applying for an outgoing transfer include:
1. Change of Address application form/Formulir Pengajuan Pindah Alamat ;
2. Sponsor's application letter for change of address; (company stamp or Rp10,000 stamp if guaranteed by family)
3. Sponsor's ID card/KTP (photocopy);
4. Guarantor Statement from sponsor/Surat Pernyataan dan Jaminan (Rp10,000 stamp + company stamp)/(For Indonesian spouse sponsors, simply sign on a Rp 10,000 stamp);
5. Certificate of domicile/Surat keterangan domisili from the apartment if the foreigner lived in an apartment;
6. Power of Attorney with Rp10,000 stamp (if applicable);
7. Foreigner's passport (original + photocopy)
8. KTP of the authorized person if applicable (photocopy);
9. E-ITAS (photocopy);
10. For foreign nationals holding ITAP, attach the original and photocopy of the KITAP;
11. For foreign workers, attach the work permit (photocopy);
12. If sponsored by Indonesian spouse, attach Marriage Certificate, spouse's KTP & KK (photocopy);
13. For foreign Investors (PMA), attach a Recommendation from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) (photocopy);
14. For students, attach a Recommendation Letter from the relevant Agency.
Once the process is complete, the applicant will receive the foreigner's immigration file (to be presented to the new area's Immigration Office) .

... The next step is to take care of the inward transfer at the immigration office in the new domicile area. The general requirements that need to be prepared are :
  • Foreigner's Immigration file from the old area's Immigration Office,
  • Application Letter for Inward Address Transfer/Surat Permohonan Mutasi Alamat Masuk ,
  • Sponsor's Guarantee Letter/Surat Pernyataan dan Jaminan ,
  • Foreigner's passport + photocopy and
  • Domicile Certificate/Surat Keterangan Domisili.

1.5 mill for something that is free and takes about 15 minutes if you do it yourself !
I have to disagree. While there is no charge, it's not a 15 minute thing and requires multiple trips back and forth between immigration offices along with gathering all the paper work. A few hours at the least and may well be worth 1.5 million to some people. Been there, do that and didn't even get a t-shirt.

I also found changing the address for a letter of domicile to renew my Kitas visa was unbelievably difficult. I was told to get the Surat Pindah from my last place of Domicile. Almost everyone I talked to, didn't know anything about this. Even my agent! I had to go back to East Bali, spend IDR. 600.000:taxi ride. Luckily a friend there got the paper for me. i brought it here, had to have someone give it to the local village head, get the letter of domicile, then give that to my agent to get my new yearly Kitas stamp.
I thought it was ridiculously complicated just to move to a new district. I truly dread, if I ever move again!
All of this to move just 60 kilometers away!

Thanks for this - that is definitely not a 15 minute process. Also the visa agency IS my sponsor so I would have to get the guarantor statement and id card from them. At the very least I'll get them to do all the Jakarta-based stuff, I may be able to finish the job off here.

.. for anyone following along this still rumbles on. It took FOREVER to get a letter from the kantor sipil RT with my new address, partly because we had only just moved and had to introduce ourselves and partly because I didn't apply enough uang grease initially and only when I followed up did they say they needed some more.

The process is now stuck with the visa agency who cannot apply for the address change online because my account is marked "LAPOR" which I believe means is waiting for my 2nd home visa funds report. That of course was done 6 weeks ago and I have the stamp (that was another long story) but it's yet another thing which someone needs to 'fix' before my address can be changed.

So the benefit of having a visa agency do it is they have all the various contacts at immigration to work out issues like this. Well I sure hope they do, I really don't want to have to fly to Jakarta again and spend another 2 days in the kantor immigrasi.

Each RT/RW has different treatment . In my (lower middle class) area , the many Pak RT and Pak RW I dealt with (in 21 years) never ask me for money for issuing me a document .
