So.. I'm from a place where pork being the main protein (yeah i know it's not the healthiest xd) so pork is such a big part in my food list. I love chicken and beef but I really really really miss pork.

I had tried Papaya Fresh Gallery ( I like to call it "the japanese store") and their fresh pork is very nice but variety is low and also in small quantity.

I'd also tried the frozen ones. There are basically 3 types of frozen imported pork:

  1. US imported: it's 5/10. A lot these are NOT fresh and they taste like they've been froze over 3 years. Sometimes, with terrible packaging you can even taste the fridge. And in Grand Lucky ( the one in SCBD), they defreeze and freeze again and agin.
  2. Spanish pork: it's 6/10. Same situation as the US one but it taste slightly better in general.
  3. Danish pork: -100/10. I'm sorry, but this is the type of pork that makes ppl say things like "pig is dirty and pork is dirty" because they STINK. I got traumatized so much I didn't dare to touch pork for a month lol.
So for the past 1 year, I've survived with japanese pork. But Japnese pork is extremly expensive, and I'm looking for more shopping options with good pork (no stinks, preferredly blood drained iykyk, and fresh if it's possible) .

Also, I'm guessing they don't sell fresh pork in wet markets even in north jakarta (well a lot chinese so...)? If you're also one with taste for pork, and you know any things about it, i'd love to talk

I'm surprised Indonesia imported pork from many countries (you mentioned US, Spain, Denmark, and Japan).

Indonesia is exporting pork to Singapore from Batam or Riau where Salim Group has a large pig farm.

I have no idea they are exporting pork. The pork I've found in supermarkets (Foodhall, Hypemart, Grand Lucky, etc) are all imported.

Many Pasars have pork stalls. I can not name one since I am not in Jakarta. I do know Pasar Modern in BSD area of Tangerang has a nice, clean, pork area with quite a few different sellers. Just go early. Where I am located, while there are pork sellers I found them to cut the portions smaller than what I desire since so much is smoked that I make arrangements to get the size I want the next day. Some will even bring it to my door.

Just did some research and I founnd this article: South Jakarta City Government Ensures Traditional Markets Are Pork-Free (https://lampuhijau.co.id/baca-berit...-pastikan-pasar-tradisional-bebas-daging-babi)

So I'm guessing no pork at pasars in south :(

There is already previous link in here.

You could also order it online. If you want fresh one I think the best place is to go to the public market where there are a lot of Indonesian Chinese. An example to this is ' Pasar Glodok' (Glodok China Town Market)

If only Putin knew Indonesia is importing pork from Europe (Denmark and Spain), there could be Russian pork too.

Pasar Senen is one a the markets in JKT where you can find pork meat being sold.
Pasar senen is far from being the only one btw. All sell local pork meat freshly potong.

It's been 6 months for now. Any chances you remeber the name? I'm having difficulties finding pork butcher in PIK.

Fen Fen Pork. It is along the row of bakmi places (Bakmi Lamlo, Bakmi PIK, etc.) in Fresh Market PIK. I have not gone there for bakmi in a little while. If you go let us know your opinion. Prices were higher end, but not as high as American bacon prices. They had a large variety of cuts fresh and frozen.

IIRC, there is also a pig butcher at the fresh market too. It is in the basement along the back corner. I could hear the squeals of the pigs, so they butcher onsite. PIK 2 also has a pork butcher at the Tokyo market. PIK and PIK 2 are heavily populated by other foreign and wealthier domestic Chinese, Koreans, and Japanese. There are a lot of pork options with prices to match the higher income levels of those areas.

Like Atlantis said, there is a lot around at various pasar traditional and suppliers. (More often North and West Jakarta) There are hundreds of Chinese restaurants in Jakarta that sell pork. They all buy it somewhere. For better quality, you will have to make friends and likely pay a small premium and probably get up early. You are a small irregular purchaser vs restaurants. Surprisingly organ meats seem to sell for a premium if you are looking for those. A pig will have many kilos of pork belly, but only one heart or two kidneys.

Do not go into this pork buying with the idea you will just pick up some cuts of pork like those that were available in Western markets. They are not there. Grab a diagram of the pork cuts from a whole pig and point out what you are looking for. You may have to return to get it and chances are it won't be exactly what you wanted but better than what you first encountered. Butchers here have a tendacy to just cut in chunks.no matter what. Bellies and loins will be common but all else up for grabs.

Thank you for letting me know.

Yesterday I went to Pasar Senen and indeed, there are many fresh pork sellers and the quality is great. I went there around 12pm, and I could tell some items are sold out already. But I want to give you guys a warning, cuz there are a LOT organs and pig heads, so it could be a bit disturbing. Pork is sold seperated with rest of the market, so you need to walk around a bit and find the sign.

Fresh pork from Pasaar Senen: 10/10! Fresh, meat is sticky and dry (iykyk) so no water injection (I've heard some ppl injecting water into beef and pork to add weights), no stinks, and good price! The rib I got is RP 99,000/KG.

I'm attaching the photo of the pork I bought. I bought ribs and cooked it last night. The color is nicely deep pink. You can still see it in the picture (sorry I was blanching the pork before I stew it so some parts are cooked)

Also, if you are wondering how I communicated with the seller, honestly it's broken bahasa terms and English mostly. This market is right at the edge of Menteng, so even if you are staying in Jaeksel, it's a good option.

The reason I kinda avoided the shops in PIK cuz it's waaaaaay too far for me. I think I will explore more at pasars around me. Also, I totally agree that PIK has the best pork dishes. And yes, if you want to buy organs, you gotta be there early. I went to Pasar Senen yesterday at 12PM, and what left was mostly meat (ribs, loins, belly, and chunks etc).
