Dear Members,

We have amended the posting guidelines to reflect our position in regards to sharing articles on the forum. The essence has not changed, however we felt we need to further emphasize some points regarding the linking of outside articles.

This is the amended paragraph:
Do not link to an outside article without comment. This is a discussion forum. If you wish to discuss an article from outside of our forum, you may do so by linking. Please also include your own comments as to why you are linking said article to start off the discussion.
Under no circumstances should you copy most or all of outside articles and post in on the forum. If you need to quote part of an article, you must cite the source.

In short, when sharing articles, follow these simple rules:
  1. Do not copy and paste whole articles. Instead only quote some highlights. Do not under any circumstance, copy whole articles that are behind a paywall.
  2. Link to the original article.
  3. Add your own comment or question for other members.
This is to maintain the quality of the content and discussion on this forum, as well as preserving the copyright of the original authors.

Thank you.

The Moderation Team.

We have made some adjustment to the Posting Guidelines. The text in red is the new addition.

Prohibited Content
You agree that you will not post any content which is defamatory, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, threatening, or illegal.

Gratuitous pictures of nudity and/or violence are prohibited.

Spam, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and other unwanted solicitations are also prohibited.

The posting of any copyrighted material, without the consent from the owner of the copyrighted material, is prohibited. This includes linking to sites that contain copyrighted material used without permission of the copyright holder.

This is not an exhaustive list of prohibited content, and the Moderation Team may remove other content deemed unfit for the forum at their discretion.

As can be seen in the first post above, dated Aug 14, 2017, we have had a rule against posting outside articles without comment or elaboration for some time now.

As the internet evolves, outside content is no longer limited to articles, but now includes Youtube videos, news articles, Twitter posts, etc. We have amended our posting guidelines to reflect this.

Further, as the owners and operators of Expat Indo have now stated several times, we do not wish for the forum to be a source of support for low-quality content. We have therefore made some adjustments to the Posting Guidelines to further emphasize this.

Specifically, the guidelines now state:

Linking outside content
Do not link to outside content (news articles, Youtube videos, blog posts, etc) without your own comment. This is a discussion forum. If you wish to discuss content from outside of our forum, you may do so by linking. Please also include your own comments as to why you are linking the said content to start the discussion.

Under no circumstances should you copy most or all of the outside articles and post in on the forum. If you need to quote part of an article, you must cite the source.

Links originating from our forum may directly or indirectly support the content that is being linked to. In cases where Expat Indo decides not to support such content, those links will be deleted. These include spam, illegal content, trolling, hoaxes, and other low-quality content, solely at the discretion of the Moderation Team.

Thank you.

The Moderation Team.
