Looks like the airport train will finally start in July. Looks exciting and hopefully avoid the sometimes 3 hour traffic jams on the toll road. Price is ok to me but the time it takes seems very long - 55 mins? I guess a lot also depends on how smooth they make the transition at both ends, especially with luggage. If the recent terminal 3 opening was anything to go by then this part will put a lot of people off....

So what do you think? Going to give it a go?

Directly from our house, Uber is right around the same as the lower end of the proposed pricing, hence I will probably just keep taking Uber / Grab. This is especially true if my family is accompanying me!

Where does the train start from, if you've got to fight through a traffic jam to get to it, you might as well drive direct

I think that initially it will start from a station near the BNI building near Sudirman. I agree 55 minutes seems long - but since I can walk to the station from my apt a "certain" 55 minutes is better for planning than an "anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours" crapshoot.....that is, of course, only if it runs like clockwork...a big If - but time will tell.

I wonder if there will be a discount fare for those riding on the roof.

I wonder if the Roof Riders realise the train goes into a tunnel with not a lot of head room, I can imagine a pile of bodies at every tunnel entrance

Yes, probably tends to cut down on the number of round-trippers.

When I used to drive up the Toll road, the train track runs parallel to the toll road, you couldn't get another person on the roof, crammed into the carriages, between the carriages and for a few rupiah extra you can travel with the driver, how he copes with about 20 people piled in with him I have no idea, so the MRT is going to be interesting, viewing it from afar of course
