Welcome to Expat Indo Forum and thank you for joining us!
We created this forum because we feel it is important to have a community where expats moving to Indonesia, travelers visiting the wonders of the archipelago, Indonesian in and out of the country, and everyone in between can come together to share knowledge, experience, and have a good time along the way.
The former platform that served this purpose let us down and it was apparent that a void needed to be filled as soon as possible. We listened to your plea, rolled our sleeves and delivered.
Now that we are all here, let us tell you a bit more about our aspirations.
Who is this forum for?
Expat Indo is for everyone. Whether you're an old timer or a newbie, a foreigner or a local, you are all welcome to participate in this community.
Feel free to ask questions about any matter, start conversations about topics you are passionate about, share your knowledge and experience, or simply say hi.
The same moderation team, supercharged:
With Expat Indo Forum, the moderation and administration teams are cooperating very closely, which means we have greater flexibility to respond to user needs and suggestions as well as to crack down on bugs if they pop up.
What it also means is that our moderators now have access to more power and more functionalities in order to make their job easier, faster and all around more efficient.
Speaking of moderation, we will take on a more relaxed approach by trying a little experiment with The Cage. A more private, hidden, special section of the forum, only accessible to the mightiest of mighty members, where (almost) anything goes with no moderation interference. Stay tuned for more information! When this goes live, you will be among the first to know!
A familiar but improved home:
Expat Indo Forum is based on our familiar and beloved vbulletin 4. It is one of, if not the most popular message board platform - and for good reason. It has extensive customization options, it has been around for years, it is very well supported, and there are many third party plug-ins. The cherry on top? We have full control over every nook and cranny to deliver the best experience possible.
What this means is that while we set up the interface to be familiar to what everyone is used to, we have also made some major improvements by:

Community means inclusivity:
We consider this forum a constant work in progress because we believe that we can always out-do ourselves. But this is a community, as such will involve our users and take into account your opinion and suggestions on improvements, changes, new functionalities, etc. If an update is NOT needed by the community, we will simply not pursue it.
A modern, up-to-date companion website:
Along with Expat Indo Forum, we have a companion information website at www.expatindo.org. While still under construction, this website will offer the most up-to-date information on all aspects of living in Indonesia.
This website will be actively managed by the Moderation Team to provide you with accurate, current and useful information. No more guessing and no more dodgy prenup agreement drafts *wink*wink*

- removing excess fat: functions that are not used have simply been removed
- better layout, with easy access to posting guidelines, contact form, etc
- fewer and better organised forums and sub-forums
- hosted in Singapore for fast access and reliability from Indonesia
- and last but not least: it. just. works.
