Ha ha, no insult or demeaning thoughts meant here. I threw that in just because I have come across so many Sundanese that have no clue of their history and it was meant as a way to point that out. Sundanese had a rich powerful history doing very well until a certain group entered their world.

No, Sundanese are not the only ones that lack knowledge of their history here. There is a lot of history never taught here unless a student goes outside the classroom in search of it. Unfortunate.

Was it not the Javanese who murdered the Sudanese royalty and forced the people to join Islam or join the dead?
since none clarifies.
These were two different events, separated more than 100 years.
The first was the Bubat tragedy in 1357, where the Sundanese royal entourage accompanying the offering bride of the Majapahit king was slaughtered by Gajah Mada - one of his darkest sides. That is why until May 2018 there was no Gajah Mada street in Bandung.
The second event at the end of the 15th century was the war between the father (the last King of Majapahit -Brawijaya V who was Hindu) vs his son - Raden Patah who was Muslim. Very interesting history, full of myths - the king was disappeared at Mt. Lawu; hiding in gunung kidul or escaped to bali.

The accompanied bride was a princess to be wed to Ayam Wuruk, king of Majapahit. After all had gathered for the wedding, Gajah Mada changed the arrangement where as the princess would not be a bride but a concubine to Ayam Wuruk. Yeah, that could be met negatively.

Not son but cousin. I doubt the cousin could do much alone. Did he recruit the Muslim regions or did the Muslim regions bring him along in their plans?

"Until recently, the Pajajaran Kingdom was thought to be the oldest Sundanese kingdom. Even though it existed as late as 1482-1579, much of the activity of its nobles is shrouded in legend. Siliwangi, the Hindu king of Pajajaran, was overthrown by a plot between the Muslims of Banten, Ceribon, and Demak in league with his own cousin. With Siliwangi’s fall, Islam took control of much of West Java. A key factor in Islam’s success was the advance of the Demak Kingdom of East Java into West Java by 1540. From the east and west, Islam penetrated to the Priangan (central highlands) and encompassed all the Sundanese"

I referring to Raden Patah, he was the son of Brawijaya V, the last king of Majapahit, and a Chinese princess from the Ming Dynasty. The plot was a bit complicated; and the wali songo (9 muslim guardian) played significant role.

The majority of Sundanese I have spoken to about their history know nothing about the following.

The name Sunda derives from the Sanskrit prefix su- which means "goodness" or "possessing good quality". An example is suvarna (lit:"good color") used to describe gold. Sunda is also another name for Hindu God Vishnu. In Sanskrit, the term Sundara (masculine) or Sundari (feminine) means "beautiful" or "excellence".[1] The term Sunda also means bright, light, purity, cleanness and white.

Wisnu, are you Hindi? The name Wisnu certainly is.

My parent was from Solo and Yogya, so I can claim as Javanese though i was born in Jakarta.
But I'm reluctant to claim as Javanese particularly to other Javanese as I can only speak javanese ngoko (coarse) and partly madyo (medium). My kromo inggil (fine) is worse than my poor english.
Javanese cultures was strongly influenced by hindi - that's why hindus gods are in my name and all my brother names though we are not hindus.
Vishnu is the preserver and protector of the universe. I do the same thing for living but on very tiny scale.
