Importing goods over the $1500 limit

The new regulations were introduced towards the end of 2018 and any items valued more than US$1500 required an API and NIK along with other supporting documents. I don't have the API or NIK at the time this was introduced. With the new OSS and the NIB company registration number, the API and...

    Suggestions for building a house

Talking of shoddy workmanship, the wife and I, for a laugh I might add, decided to check out some brand new houses being built. The sales guy's eyes lit up when he saw me with the wife but I quickly changed that after I told him I would not even pay 50% of the sales price as the build quality...

Prost is fine if nothing else available but that Bali Hai stuff is terrible.

    Increased censorship on cable channels.

I find it increasingly annoying with the censoring of material on Indonesian cable channels. It is now getting stupid with fake wounds in movies now being blurred out, never mind the blurring of minor cleavage. Now it has also been applied to the Discovery channels where operations on body parts...

Bit late to post I see, but Sentul still has sales of beers. Bogor is now off the list of places to live. :)

    Bea Cukai processing time

With the new changes and online system for customs, Batam redline, even on domestic shipments is super crazy long. My last 2 shipments took 2 weeks to clear redline I now don't bother ordering from Batam, even though it was the cheapest option, in most cases.

Shipping goods to from tokopedia to The netherlands

Good point. I often find that if I am in no hurry for something, I can order it cheaper from AliExpress and pay far less than the local seller wants for it.

    Self-driving taxis

At least the auto driving cars would stop at the RED traffic lights unlike the local idiots. I am getting fed up shouting "merah, goblok" at traffic crossings. :)

Registering move of apartment & living together unmarried

Answer to 2. Right now, as far as I know, there is no law against living together or even having sex outside marriage but this is something that the Islamic religious groups are pushing for, as we have seen in the recent press posts. I am now married but not registered here yet so we are also...

Register marriage locally after some years since married.

We got married overseas to avoid he need to convert to the same religion. When we did this in the UK 3 years ago, we were told by the Indonesian embassy there that they no longer do any documents for marriage validation even though I told him that all the websites indicated we needed this...

    Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)

UPS's are easy to get here. Mainly used for things you need to keep running for a short time like computers or video playback devices with a hard disk and an OS. The only issue I have with them is the higher ambient temperature tends make the battery life around 1 year or so unless your rooms...

3G/ 4G and so on for dummies

Your phone is 3G only so you would not benefit from the 4G offering, at least not for the speed. It would still probably work on 3G as 4G falls back to 3G if there is no LTE available but I have never tried a 4G SIM in a 3G phone. To get the full 4G you need to get yourself a new phone with...

Mad Dogs will be closed as either now or soon as they are moving everyone out as Cilandak commercial is being torn down to build apartments I heard.

    Any opinions on Netflix Indonesia?

I am using them and if you can live with the limited access to content compared to the US it's pretty good and no censorship. We are currently watching Orange is the New Black and there is nothing being censored :) Using a Chromecast allows you to view on your main TV and it works much better...

    Working on Spouse KITAP

Have read through this and looking to change to a wife sponsored KITAP I still have a question about what type of company you can work for. In my particular case I have my own foreign owned PMA and I am the director and major shareholder. I've been married or over 3 years now but still on a...

    interesting approach to service

Love the business class flight posting. :) When I went to get my first credit card from a local bank I was told I could get one but being a foreigner I had to deposit 110% in an account for the amount of credit limit I wanted. No problem as I only need a small limit so all the forms were filled...
