The past few weeks have been beyond a joke with about 50 or more bomb-sounding fireworks going off an hour- to be honest too many to count.
It isn't ramadan related to my knowledge, it was before the fasting.
I live in a smallish village & the people here are very much NOT wealthy, I just don't understand where the kids get the money to literally set it on fire at the rate they are doing.

It really is beginning to feel like I live in a warzone & really pissing me off.

They’re probably firing bamboo cannons. They don’t cost much, because they can just cut down some bamboo, and the rest is kerosene.

Being loud for fun is stupid and inconsiderate. Do they ever stop to think they're waking up babies, scaring pets, or generally annoying people? Of course they have, and it's part of the reason why they do it.

This is exactly my issue with mosque loudspeakers ... and at least fireworks don't go off at 4am every night!

To be honest the kids start start at 6am, the mosque isn't a problem for me at all; I am so used to the mosque calls that the sounds are expected and part of the background noises here... I am having a much harder time with the kids & their predisposition towards explosives

Growing up in Australia when fireworks were readily available we used to open up the thick bungers and rake out the powder. We then used a piece of 1" steel pipe to make a small cannon. Drilled a hole for a fuse, packed in the gunpowder, some wadding and a steel ball. It made a hole in steel bus shelter. This was mainly a male thing. Don't know of any girls who tried these kind of experiments.
And of course every year there would be terrible injuries to kids, occasional blindings, lost fingers and even death. Sensibly fireworks are now banned unless being used by licensed pryrotechical operators.

Late sixties early seventies, Singapore's old Chinese sector used to be like a war zone.

I guess everyone has different noise tolerance. For me fireworks are not a problem. I guess some neighbours might not appreciate our dog barking too. Proper islamic countries like UAE or Malaysia don't abuse the mosque loudspeakers like Indonesians do, and in those countries it can be a nice sound, not too loud, serving a purpose. But here they use cheap loudspeakers, let all kinds of people who can't even sing use them, use them outside normal praying times, deliberately put them close to apartment blocks to annoy people, then if someone complains they turn them up (that's before we get to the abuse of blasphemy laws on those who complain).

The ironic thing is that they are committing haram acts by doing this, abusing one of the pillars of Islam. The texts require muslims who pray not to disturb others while doing so.

I find myself getting jealous when I look at photos of my friends back home. Not because they show nice things or beautiful scenery, it's because I know it's quiet there

Oh and sidewalks. Man they have some real sidewalks over there!

Small rural towns in USA don’t always have sidewalks, but we don’t usually have street stalls either.

In Indonesia sidewalk = free real estate.

The loudest cannons over here use karbit (calcium carbide) and water, the exact ingredient for acetylene welding torch. Back then enterprising folks would cut down an abandoned electrical pole (made out of steel tube) and use it as a cannon. The notorious meriam karbit would claim lives once in a while.

It is crazy how ignorant people are. Knowing what I know today about firearms and gun powder, I wouldn’t be standing within 30 meters of any homemade metal cannon. If you misjudge the carbide amount, the steel pipe will rupture and spread deadly shrapnel around.

Just to clarify, I am no fan of but aren't that bothered by regular fireworks...
These are like nothing I heard before -
I have no interest in getting into Indonesia vs other countries or debating religion.
I was just asking about these bomb type 'fireworks' going off - literally rattling the house windows from 6 am to night & if anyone else experienced it lol.
The update is that they seem to have run out of fuel as the firework activity dropped off to regular bangers and such a couple of days ago- YAY!
