Hi all,

Could I please ask for some help?Has anyone seen or dealt with the above company in Balikpapan who deal with classic cars? They look and sound authentic but are extremely cheap and I can’t easily get there. Also does anyone know of any companies that might do vehicle inspections in the local area? Thanks very much in advance for any help, which will be very much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Steve

I don't see them online; it is unusual for anyone selling anything, especially rare and expensive commodities or services, to have a zero digital footprint. You might call any of the local auto dealers in Balikpapan and ask if they have ever heard of the outfit.

I opened the site. They list a number of cars, but only 3 of their inventory were available and priced. They do not list sold or pending prices, making me wonder where you got the idea that their cars are priced "extremely cheap."
They did have a '62 fuel injected Vette listed, but w/o an asking price -- meaning that their price is not likely an inducement to buy.

I'm pretty sure it's an elaborate hoax but the two cars I was interested in were a 50's Merc 190sl and a 60's 280sl priced at USD50,000 and USD35,000 respectively. If they were as described they would each be at least GBP75, 000 each in the UK, so I'd call that cheap. It's also not unusual for garages not to show sold prices. It's a very professional website, and the cars are very well and individually described but too good to be true (probably).

I defer to your market acumen; Mercedes are not on my wish list so I don't follow prices, especially prices of vintage models and especially, especially in the UK. Be careful, but good luck with your further explorations.

It was very easy to call them and to ask few questions - at least one car is without a historical documents. Just current registration and nothing more. And there are no hardtop (it is still in the garage of real owner? :). In my view there is a serious risk to buy stolen car.

https://www.yellowpages.id. - there is nothing about them and this is very strange. Also use GOOGLE Maps and information “About us” and “Contact” with their address - there are no any kind of big showroom building or repair/maintenance facilities (compare to photos of these buildings from their Internet site). That is very unusual for “one of the biggest classic car dealers in Indonesia”.

Steve I have a couple of friends who live in Balikpapan, an Aussie and an American who might be able to check out your car contact, don't know if we can private message in this forum, I am new on the list. Let me know if you want some help, I would be less concerned about digital footprint here, lots of cool projects are run at very grass roots level with low/no digital footprint but growing now..

TonyVov, yes, your help is very appreciated. This is not a new project - they said they exist on the market years and years and they are “one of the biggest classic cars dealers in Indonesia”. If your friends are able to make a picture of the office of this dealer (just from the street) preferably with workshop (on the photos from this car dealer there is a very modern, tall and spacious building for maintenance service (I am not able to see something similar using Google Maps), then, of course, risk of SDrew to loose his money will drop down significantly.
TonyVov, I am also interested in this information.
I hope this not a scum like “you have to transfer 25% as a deposit and to confirm that you are genuine buyer...”. :)

Steve, Map and Google searches don't yield any physical address, Balikpapan is a pretty big city, can you help out with any information about a physical address. So far haven't found anyone who has heard of this company.

The website will not allow access even with VPN from inside Indonesia, probably not real. If you can get street address can check it out

Its a sophisticated scam.

They will provide You with all the information about classic car and try to force You to purchase the vehicle.

They claim to ship vehicles through Borneo Logictics Express - another bogus website from the same person.

AVOID. They will most likely present fake cargo shipping documents.
