I start this thread in the hopes of helping to sustain small business and to help our community in any way we can feasibly do so.
I thought best to set it aside from the main "Don't panic" thread so that it is easier to find /reference.

What can we do to help within our community?
It doesn't have to be immediate action but perhaps plan things or suggest things that may be feasible in the longer term.
For tourism as an example encourage people to postpone their trips rather than outright cancel them.

For small businesses that provide online shopping, my hope is this may be a vehicle for them to let us know who they are and where they deliver to.
If you know of a good small business that needs consumer support at this time here would be a good place to shout out too.

If you are in West Jakarta, a family of one of my students has a food truck called Yum Yum Truck which opens at 5pm Tuesday through Sunday. They are on GoFood and GrabFood.

Right now everything is still ok, as the Balinese are preparing for Nyepi, and most hotels are still open until then to capture the last domestic tourists.

But after that things are going to get really though. I have set aside some funds specifically to help the community around me, and after Nyepi I will approach our village leader to see where these could be used. I plan to spend most of it in the local community (food/basic medicines) etc. and to space it out for at least a few months.

There is a facebook group set up that seems pragmatic, for those who are interested in contributing ideas of ways to help their local community.

Perfect. Over here in West Java the streets are pretty deserted and the economic impact has already hit some.

Bali hotel occupancy down to single digit now, beaches deserted, directly reported from my friend 3 hours ago, streets empty too, yes it is Nyepi but he said Nusa Dua (Chinese) is deserted and Seminyak / Kuta (Aussies) now also very quiet. Since the beach clubs need 1,000+ to be viable, a lot of them have closed.
So assuming you can get a flight, now is a good time to go to Bali if you want real seclusion peace and quiet and snooze on the beach alone, or go to Ubud in 40 mins and not be disturbed by hippies

Yes, uniquely about this crisis is that everyone will be hard hit. It's not some random person in a village far away. It will be your neighbors, your friends, your family.

Well, the other day I was thinking this would be a good time to check out all those nice restaurants in Jimbaran/Seminyak, with practically zero traffic and crowds. But then they got dudes dying of Covid-19 on motorbikes on the side of the road, so yeah, I'm good right here.

Ideas I am considering at the moment - setting up wa groups among the village so that we all get to know each other better and can better assess needs.
We can also use these or branch off into smaller groups to share ideas and thoughts about ways to make a coping strategy to help the most vulnerable.
Maybe group lessons for learning new skills - a drop in the ocean but I know the Indonesian people around my area are resiliant and tenacious.

I am also considering (tentatively) opening 1 room up here with the laptop in it, keyboard covered in film and letting it be used for essential online needs.
cover the keyboard in clingfilm (saranwrap?) then dispose of it between uses, and appropriately disinfect the area between uses?
Any feed back on this is most welcome?

Living in Sanur my view of contribution is continuing to go to the restaurants and pubs as usual, using Grab and Gocar,etc....
With the tourist deserting Bali, it think that "expats" can help some places to survive or at least lessen the pain.
And not over dramatizing the situation, keeping my "happy pensioner smile". For the drama part, the media is doing an excellent job at it.
Of course if like in Europe the government decides a complete lockdown... not much we can do about it.

I think the restaurants all be closed so would be pretty much breakfast and all day alone on the beach take your own 6pack and McD's dinner or gatecrash friends who live there
