Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security General Wiranto was taken to hospital after a knife attack in Banten today.

The senior minister was on his way to Jakarta when his entourage stopped at Pandeglang. Just as the minister disembarked his vehicle he was attacked with a sharp object by an assailant. Photographs online show the attack, as well as Gen. Wiranto being taken to hospital with what appears to be a wound on his abdomen.

A police officer was also injured. Police have detained two people and are investigating.

It seems he was stabbed twice with these 'ninja' knifes:

The attackers were a(n unmarried) couple of 51 and 21 years old, they were members of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD). Which has links to IS.

Wiranto's surgery took three hours.

And the authorities are more interested in investigating are persons out of wedlock having sex. Maybe they should change their priorities and pay more attention to real dangerous criminals?

Well obviously this un(officially) married couple was having sex out of official wedlock. If the police had thrown them in jail on time this attack would’ve never happened!

This is concerning, in that physical attacks towards senior government members haven't been part of the political landscape in Indonesia for a long time. Probably a testament to how thoroughly the Indonesian security apparatus cover everything.

However, lone wolf crazy types doing opportunist attacks like this is nearly impossible to prevent. I hope copycats are not inspired by this.

Although, looking at the video and how Wiranto casually exited the car with all this crowd around indicates that they could have taken much better security measures. There were threats towards him and other senior officials during the election rukus. One would have thought that the security would be a bit tighter.

Here is a video of the whole thing from a different angle...Gen. Wiranto is lucky to be alive. If the attacker used a longer knife he would've died.

(warning: video is a bit graphic)

If you are really committed to attack, no amount of security will stop you since you always have the element of surprise
You only have to look at awards or fashion shows when someone manages to get on the stage or grab someone famous, it only takes a split second and it's impossible for security to react that quickly
Last week in Paris there were several very severe incidents involving "comedians" who grabbed Justin Timberlake by the legs and another who actually got up on the runway and walked around.

According to Amin Rais’ daughter, Wiranto just seeks attention and the whole thing is a setup.

Hopefully they lock her up for 2 years. Must be possible if they use that old ‘47 law again...

If this happens, hopefully. I'll bring a bottle of Egypt best wine for you to celebrate.

They're not messing around. An army colonel has been relived of his command and ordered into detention for 14 days because his wife posted a disparaging message over the assault.

Colonel H, commander of Kendari military district was disciplined because of his wife's post on Facebook. The wife will also be referred to civilian court.

She is still denying the whole thing, arguing she never mentioned his (Wiranto's) name.
