Just wondering if the future in Indonesia is uncertain as my new job offer process has gone quiet. So maybe projects have been put on hold etc..

Maybe they're just not in the office over the last 2 days? Many offices closed or staff gone home early in Central Jakarta.

The future of Indonesia is fine.

It looks like the worst of the riots has passed, well, I hope so.

Nah. I spent 6 months in Karawang on that one until the project was cancelled.

This is a different waiting game. So sama sama but different.

Well, Prabowo was the winner in West Java. So perhaps they were/are all in Jakarta yes. ?

I had an interesting discussion with a coworker about this; he claimed that the Javanese population were all strong Prabowo supporters, but I am pretty sure that the demographics tell a different story. Sure, West Java and Banten are on the island of Java, but majority of people in both areas are Sundanese rather than Javanese. The areas with Javanese majorities (Central & East Java and Yogyakarta) were Jokowi strongholds.

Fully agree with you. The Sunda kingdom was the west of the island, almost identical to the mustard color on the map.
Also, Sundanese have always had stronger ties* to Islam, even if some say the area around Semarang is its birthplace. So even if not directly related to the person Prabowo, the more traditional Muslim parties that support him called upon their followers to give him their votes.
Last but not least, the Javanese and esp. those in Central Java, are very proud of Jokowi. And Prabowo is often seen as someone who is half northern Sulawesian.

* you can also see that in the conservatism of cities like Bandung and Bogor. And years ago when the hijab wasn't that popular, the girls in public schools in Sunda territory already wore them.
