As far as I recall (checked with wife too) I don't have bank account in CIMB Niaga. But since January 2019, I received e-mail from [email protected] with an attachment a PDF file which requires to enter password (birth date in specific format) to open it.
Is it legit ?
Any body received similar e-mail?

Possibly they sending to you by mistake but yes that is the correct format but just delete it if it is not for you

BTW when you say "from" is that the real actual email address or just the "from" header? If you hover over the email address it will show the actual address

I just checked my e-statement from CIMB and that is the correct email. It is legit.

As snpark said, just delete it. If you keep receiving it, maybe go to either the digital lounge or branch to explain what is happening.

Yes, from actual email address as mentioned.
If by mistake, how can they know my email address and my complete name correctly?
My wife confirmed that I never open account in CIMBNiaga, at least after we married.
I'm pretty sure I never visit CIMBNiaga but I'm not sure for bank Niaga.
Since the sender it is legit, I tried to open the attachment (Protected PDF) but not successful. The password I entered as per instruction is rejected.

I can't say that this is or is not a legitimate email but there is a profusion of scam emails purportedly from a bank asking you to confirm details due to some administrative process. So, I might get an email from supposedly the Commonwealth Bank where I don't have an account but if I had and responded with personal information the scammers then use that to get into your account.

That's exactly I'm worry. That's why I didn't try to open the attachment since the first email.
When I tried to open the pdf attachment file, I disconnected my mobile internet.

Yes, good to be cautious, there are a lot of bank phishing scams to 'trick' people into divulging their account id and password. Given that you do not have an account, to be even more cautious, you may not have wanted to open it at all, as they may slip some malware when you open the file. The malware can always stay silent until your device regains access to internet. Probably good to give your PC or device a security scan.

Thanks @jnlito for very good advice.
I'm using mobile phone when attempt to open it. After fail, I activate my internet again.
What exactly I need to do now?
Sorry, I'm very dumb on using mobile phone. I don't have social media (FB, twitter, instagram ) accounts except LinkedIn and Flickr.

Just because they used the correct "from" address doesn't mean the email is legit, it can somewhat easily be 'spoofed'. Here are two articles about how you can check:

Welcome - i learnt from others too :D. if you are using Android, you can use any of the recommended malware/antivirus apps from https://www.androidauthority.com/best-antivirus-android-apps-269696/.
