Another major data breach has been reported: Email and password details from several major email providers (Gmail, Yahoo, Microsoft) being leaked online. This one is truly massive, as up to 773 million email addresses may have been breached.

If you use any of these services, you should change any passwords for those accounts and also for any accounts with the same password.

You can check whether your accounts are compromised at https://haveibeenpwned.com/.

Best login credential practices:

1) Never use the same password for another site.
2) Activate two-factor authentication.
3) Use a strong password.

Democrats will see a Russian conspiracy while Trump will try to link the event to Hillary.

I checked out mine & it said one of my accts had been compromised- but when I checked it was me looking at the VK website. Maybe cos it is Russian? Anyway have changed P/W.
None of my accts are linked to each other, my Paypal uses one email addy my bank uses a different one, FB uses yet a different one, this site a different one again etc... I have that many dratted email accts that I lose track of them haha

As long as they can't get my money I don't care. After 45 years in this world everyone already knows I'm a cantankerous old arsehole with a sick perverted mind so any data they can hack would be pretty useless if they want to blackmail me later!!
*allegedly

I should have said 1945 then

Anyway my password is easy "incorrect"
That way, if I get it wrong, it reminds me "your password is incorrect" Ok thanks amazon for that lol

It seems that the hacked information comes from other sites (not gmail, yahoo, or microsoft directly) where you use your email as user name. It is useful for hackers because many people use the exact same password for all their online accounts.

I use a different password for every single site. Passwords for email accounts related to financial transactions are very different from one another, more than 20 character long, and protected by 2 factor authentication. For bank accounts and the like, I have a separate address not used for other purposes, so it's not even listed anywhere unless the banks themselves are hacked. Let's say they hack Netflix, they'll have the email address I use for social stuff, but my bank wouldn't even have that address listed.

To recap and improve on the best practices:
1. Use strong passwords (10 characters or more)
2. Use a unique password for every online account.
3.Have a separate email address for financial institutions, and use it nowhere else.
4.Use 2-factor authentication if possible, especially for financial-related accounts.

2 factor is fine if your in the right country when logging in.

My Australian bank and the government mygov site, keep pushing for me to use 2 factor. Problem is they want to send a code to my Australian Sim number.

Will have to see what else I can sort out with my Oz bank when next back there (given up on mygov:painkiller:)

Buy a $20 Nokia and keep it for your aussie sim only
